Safety alerts: Caution track work on Tomaree Coastal Walk

Contractors will be working on Tomaree Coastal Walk near Big Rocky Trail from Wednesday 4 February to Wednesday 11 February 2026. Please follow directional signage and follow any advice from staff or contractors.

Closed areas: Parts of Myall Lakes National Park near Mungo Brush are closed due to wildfire

To ensure public safety while there is an active fire, sections of Myall Lakes National Park along Mungo Brush Road are closed.

 

Closed areas include:

1. Myall Lakes National Park campgrounds and picnic areas between the Broadwater Ferry at Bombah Point Road and the southern park boundary (north of Myall River Camp) on Mungo Brush Road are all closed.

2. Mungo Brush Road from Lemon Tree Beach access to Bombah Point Ferry is closed.

4. Access to Mungo Beach via Mungo Beach access is closed.

4. The Bombah Point Ferry is closed to the general public. (Emergency vehicles excepted).

 

The situation will be reviewed Wednesday 11th of February 2026.

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Some parts of Wallaroo National Park are closed from Monday 10 November to Monday 2 February 2026 for planned road maintenance, with heavy plant and machinery in operation.

Roads and trails that will be closed during these works include:   

  • Ripleys Trail
  • Ten Mile Road
  • Lone Pine Road
  • Callaghans Trail
  • Drews Trail
  • Nine Mile Road
  • Allen Road  

During this time, pedestrian and vehicle access is not permitted.

Multiple roads within Myall Lakes National Park are planned for upgrade under the Infrastructure Betterment Fund Program.

Visitors can expect minor changes to access during the following timeframes (weather permitting):

  • Korsmans Road: Nov 2025 to Feb 2026
  • Stoney Creek Road: March to April 2026
  • Bombah Point Road: Dec 2025 to April 2026 
  • Yagon Road: March to April 2026

Some parts of Myall Lake National Park are closed due to post bushfire recovery and potential risk to public safety. The closed areas are:

  • All areas north of Little Nugra Road and South of Booral Rd

Safety alerts: Worimi Beach Is Unsafe for Swimming

Worimi beach is not suitable for swimming due to hazardous surf conditions. 

  • Beaches in this park are not patrolled by lifeguards and can have strong rips and currents.
  • The safest place to swim is at a patrolled beach, between the red and yellow flags.
  • Check the Beachsafe website to find the nearest patrolled beaches- Birubi Beach at Anna Bay is the nearest lifeguard patrolled beach.

Closed areas: Tomago precinct: intermittent closures for feral animal control (ground shooting)

On selected nights between 4 September 2025 and 30 June 2026, the Tomago precinct of Hunter Wetlands National Park will be closed for ground shooting operations targeting feral deer. When operations are active, affected areas will be signposted “Do not enter.”

Other feral animals, including rabbits and foxes, will be targeted if observed during the operations.

Closed parks: Corrie Island Nature Reserve closed for shorebird nesting season

Corrie Island Nature Reserve is closed from Friday 1 August 2023 to Sunday 31 March 2026 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.

Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.

During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.

Yacaaba Headland walking track, in southern Myall Lakes National Park at Hawks Nest, is open to a viewing point. Beyond this point the track is closed for visitor safety.
