Safety alerts: Weed spraying in Limeburners Creek national park and Goolawah regional park

Roadside and maintenance trail weed spraying will be occurring throughout Limeburners Creek national park and Goolawah regional park until 4:00pm Friday 10th February 2023, weather dependant.

There will be minimal impact to visit experience however all safety signage and directives must be adhered to.

Closed areas: Point Plomer Road (sand track) partially closed

Point Plomer Road (sand track only) will be closed between Queens Head 4WD beach access to the southern boundary of Limeburners Creek national park at 'The Broken Bit' from Thursday 2nd February to Friday 17th February 2023 for roadside vegetation management.

Access to Queens Head carpark and 4WD beach access from Point Plomer, and North Shore Beach from North Shore Drive, will not be affected.

Cockerawombeeba Road and trail are closed until further notice due to extensive flood damage.

There is no access from Plateau Beech campground south, through to Forbes River Road.

The road will re-open once the Forestry Corporation completes repairs.

The bridge on Slees road on the boundary of Viewmont State Forest and Bollanolla Nature Reserve has been severely impacted by the 2022 floods and is not currently trafficable.

It is not safe to cross. Road closure signs have been put in place.

Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge closed

 

The bridge crossing providing access from Reflections Holiday Park Moonee south onto Coffs Coast Regional Park/Green Bluff/Sapphire North has been damaged from coastal erosion. 

 

Reflections Holiday Parks have closed the bridge until further notice - due to an engineering assessment deeming the bridge unsafe for pedestrians.

 

Solitary Islands Coastal Walkers can reroute via:

  • West along Moonee Beach Rd to south-west corner of shopping centre
  • South along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Hwy
  • South onto southern end of Nth Solitary Dr
  • East onto Nth Sapphire Rd to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe

 

Green Bluff is alternatively accessible from the south via Rutile Trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire

Closed areas: Korora (Pine Brush Creek) Staircase closed - access rerouted

The staircase on the headland at Korora is closed until further notice due to coastal erosion damage.

The staircase is south-east of Daintree Drive, Korora (Pine Brush Creek mouth at Hills Beach, near Opal Cove Resort).

It provides Solitary Islands Walk access south onto Hills Beach or north onto Daintree Drive, Korora.

Please follow this alternative route:

  1. Via western end (cul-de-sac) of Pine Brush Crescent, Korora.
  2. Take the laneway to south onto bridge across Pine Brush Creek.
  3. Follow the path along southern bank of Pine Brush Creek east to rejoin Solitary Islands Walk on Hills Beach.

Access to Yessabah Nature Reserve is permanently closed to unauthorised personnel. The former quarry area has limestone rock faces that are unstable and prone to rock fall. Other areas of the reserve are geologically unstable.

Suttons road is closed to vehicle traffic for safety reasons following a pavement collapse during recent wet weather.  Alternate access is via Granite Pit or McMullens Roads.

The following areas are closed from 1 October 2022 due to damage caused by ongoing weather events:

  • Wilsons River Bridge on Hastings Forest Way
  • North Wilson Road
  • Waterfall Walk
  • Botanic Walk

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.

Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.

Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.

Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in Bongil Bongil National Park from Wednesday 10 August 2022 to Tuesday 28 February 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program is designed to minimise fox impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
