The only access road into Butterleaf National Park, across the adjoining state forest, is closed until further notice. This is because it is impassable for vehicle traffic due to damage from multiple rain events. Visitors can still access the park on foot.

Closed areas: Bungoona walking track closed
Bungoona walking track, which gradually climbs around the side of Bald Rock to the summit, will be closed from 8am Monday 15 August until 5pm Friday 26 August. This closure is to support maintenance and reconstruction works on the track.
The Rockface walk to the summit will remain open during this time, but is a hard walk directly up the face of Bald Rock.

Misty Creek Road in Guy Fawkes River National Park is closed for roadworks to repair flood damage from 8am Monday 8 August until 5pm Friday 19 August. The following locations will be closed while these works are undertaken:

Safety alerts: Road closure and safety advice - 4WD only and horse float restrictions
Spirabo Forest Way is open from the north-western end of Washpool National Park (from Scrub Road at Tenterfield), and is restricted to 4WD only. If entering the Four Bull Hut area with a horse float then entry and exit should be from this direction.
Access south of Four Bull Hut is unsuitable for horse floats, and requires 4WD with high ground clearance.
Access to Four Bull Hut via the following routes is also by 4WD only, in vehicles with high ground clearance:
- Mount Spirabo Road from the New England Highway at Bolivia
- Ten Mile Road in the south from Deepwater, on Spirabo Forest Way through Capoompeta National Park
The above accesses roads remain unsuitable for towing of horse floats. These roads are unsuitable for low clearance 4WDs or AWD vehicles.

Closed areas: Limited access to Mount Babyl trail
Access to Mount Babyl trail it limited due to landslips and storm damage.
There is no access to Mount Babyl trail from the north via Peacock Creek Road/Sextonville Road due to a major landslip on Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive.
Access from the south is limited to LV 4WD only due to a rockfall which has only been partly cleared on Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive. Extreme care should be taken when driving through the rock fall area and the road should not be used during wet weather.

Safety alerts: 1080 ground baiting program
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be doing a 1080 ground baiting program in this park from Monday 18 July to Friday 19 August 2022.
The operations will use a combination of manufactured and meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Changed conditions due to flooding
The overnight wilderness walk and Bicentennial National trail require several river crossings. The catchment is currently full and experiencing intermittent flooding. River conditions can change rapidly without warning. Please avoid entering fast flowing rivers and streams.

Aerial Baiting is scheduled for 06/06/2022 to 10/06/2022
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

Closed areas: Road closure
Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.
The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.
Please note:
- Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
- Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

All NPWS campgrounds now require you to make an online booking before you stay, or to complete a Trip Intention Form for those that are remote and do not have a dedicated webpage, like the campground in Butterleaf National Park.
