Safety alerts: Tomaree Coastal Walk construction - caution

Some parts of the Tomaree Coastal Walk have active construction sites, this presents several hazards should the sites be accessed without authorisation. Works for these track sections are anticipated for completion between November 2022 and January 2023.

New track construction and existing track upgrades:

  • In Boat Harbour Kingsley Beach & Little Kingsley Beach.
  • In Boat Harbour between Ocean Pde and the Morna Point Slot Canyon
  • In Anna Bay between Iris Moore Reserve and Fishermans Bay
  • At the Middle Rock Headland between One Mile Beach and Samurai Beach 
  • Big Rocky Precinct between Big Rocky and Little Rocky and between Big Rocky and North Samurai Trail

The Lighthouse Keepers' Cottages Ruins site is closed to pedestrian access for public safety reasons. Please do not enter the site under any circumstances.

Closed areas: Tomaree Coastal Walk Southern Gateway Construction

Part park closure from the concrete pedestrian between Pacific Avenue Carpark, and the Tomaree NP Boundary. This area is closed within Iris Moore Reserve,  area of Tomaree National Park due to Tomaree Coastal Walk construction. 

The closure is to facilitate construction of the Tomaree Coastal Walk Southern Gateway. Pedestrians are encouraged to use alternative access between Pacific Ave Carpark and the Tomaree NP boundary via Ocean Ave.

Closed areas: Wreck Beach walking track closed

Wreck Beach walking track is closed due to heavy rain undermining the walking track causing significant damage to steps and landings. The closure will be in place for an extended period until repairs are undertaken.

Barriers and signage are in place for visitor safety.

Closed areas: Box Beach carpark night closure

Box Beach carpark is closed to vehicles from 10pm to 5am daily. The gate will be locked during these times.

Box Beach Access Road is also closed to vehicles during this period.

A fee will be charged for vehicles exiting after 10pm. Please call Certis Security on 1300 370 145 for assistance.

Aerial operations for the Tomaree Coastal walk will be from December 6 to December 9 2022. This will be helicopter operationsa to support the ongoing delivery of the Tomaree Coastal Walk will take place along several sections of the Tomaree Coastal Walk including:

  • One Mile
  • Boat Harbour
  • Kingsley to Little Kingsley Beach
  • Iris Moore to Fishermans Bay
  • Big Rocky
  • Middle Rock
     

The following closures will be enforced for the duration of the helicopter operations:

  • One Mile Track between the southern end of One Mile Beach and the ‘Morna Point Trail’ junction. An exclusion zone may be enforced by NPWS staff at the southern end of One Mile Beach during aerial operations. 
  • New Boat Harbour Track south of the Depot Track junction
  • Kingsley Beach and Little Kingsley Beach
  • Iris Moore Reserve
  • Fisherman's Bay past the entry gate at the southern end of Pacific Drive
  • Big Rocky precinct past the 2wd carpark.
  • The new Middle Rock track section between One Mile Beach and Samurai Beach – exclusion zones may be enforced by NPWS staff at the northern end of One Mile Beach and the Southern end of Samurai Beach during the aerial operations.

  • Construction work at the Northern end of Samurai Beach will begin in January 2023 for approximately 4 weeks. Works will improve access to the existing North Samurai Trail and include the rehabilitation of significantly eroded corridors. The works are anticipated to take 4 weeks and are being delivered as part of the Tomaree Coastal Walk project. During this time access to and from Samurai Beach from the North Samurai Trail will be limited.

Joes Cove Campground is closed from Monday 31st October 2022 to February 2023 due to flood damage.

If you are camping, you will need to reschedule your visit or choose another boat based campground in Myall Lakes National Park.

Safety alerts: 1080 Ground Baiting Program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ground baiting programs in Tomago Wetlands and Hexham Swamp in Hunter Wetlands National Park from Wednesday 16 November to Wednesday 11 January 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will reduce the impacts of foxes on wildlife and threatened species in the park.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets including dogs, are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Do not remove or tamper with signs or baits or ejector devices if located, some baits may be buried. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Worimi Conservation Lands - Drive with care

Due to current conditions, please drive with caution on Worimi Conservation Lands between Gan Gan entry/exit and Lavis Lane entry/exit along the beach front at high tide.

Please note:

  • Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs
  • For safety, avoid driving through sea water or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly. Several vehicles on this beach have ended up in the ocean or swamped by water
  • If in doubt turn around and back track on the route you’ve driven to exit the park
  • Check tides, forecast conditions and warnings before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day
  • Do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation. Fines apply

Safety alerts: Tattersalls campground and Double Wharf picnic area - 4WD only

Tattersalls Campground Road and the access road to Double Wharf picnic area are currently not suitable for 2WD vehicles. The roads are rough and muddy due to erosion caused by recent heavy rain events.

Repairs are scheduled to begin soon. Please slow down and drive to the conditions.

Closed parks: Corrie Island Nature Reserve closed for shorebird nesting season

Corrie Island Nature Reserve will be closed from Friday 16 September 2022 to Friday 31 March 2023 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.

Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.

During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.
