Safety alerts: Caution heavy machinery in use at campground and beachside

Work is being carried out at Samurai Beach due to a recent increase in vandalism. Heavy vehicles and machinery may be in use from Monday September 7 to Friday September 11, 2026.

Closed parks: Corrie Island Nature Reserve closed to protect nesting threatened shorebirds

Corrie Island Nature Reserve is closed from Friday 1 September 2026 to Sunday 7 March 2027 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.

Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.

During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.

Little Mountain Road and Little Mountain campground are closed while repairs and upgrades to the campground are being planned and delivered.

Closed areas: Tomago precinct: intermittent closures for feral animal control (ground shooting)

On selected nights between 30 June and 30 October 2026, the Tomago precinct of Hunter Wetlands National Park will be closed for ground shooting operations targeting feral deer. When operations are active, affected areas will be signposted “Do not enter.”

Other feral animals, including rabbits and foxes, will be targeted if observed during the operations.
