Fire bans: Park Fire Ban, Wallingat, Myall Lakes and Tapin Tops National Parks

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect until midnight Sunday 19th April 2026, unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Bombah Point Ferry is temporary closed due to unplanned maintenance works. No vehicle or pedestrian access is available on the ferry during closure. The National Paks and Wildlife Service apologises for any inconvenience caused. The following areas in Myall Lakes National Park are temporarily closed due to flood impacts:

Safety alerts: Worimi Conservation Lands -Beachfront Driving Caution

Visitors are advised to always exercise caution whilst driving on beach front, conditions can change rapidly due to hazardous weather, surf and tides.

  • Driving within one hour either side of high tide is not recommended due to increased risk from changing weather and ocean conditions.
  • Subject to assessment- Consult website for the most current advice HOME - Worimi Conservation Lands
  • If the beach becomes impassable, safely turn around and backtrack along your original route to exit. Do not drive over frontal dunes or vegetation, as this is prohibited and penalties apply.

Worimi beach is not suitable for swimming due to hazardous surf conditions.

  • Beaches in this park are not patrolled by lifeguards and can have strong rips and currents.
  • The safest place to swim is at a patrolled beach, between the red and yellow flags.
  • Check the Beachsafe website to find the nearest patrolled beaches- Birubi Beach at Anna Bay is the nearest lifeguard patrolled beach.

Closed areas: Wallaroo National Park Closures due to planned maintenance works

Some parts of Wallaroo National Park are closed due to reopen Thursday 30 April 2026 for planned road maintenance, with heavy plant and machinery in operation.

Roads and trails that will be closed during these works include:   

  • Ripleys Trail
  • Ten Mile Road
  • Lone Pine Road
  • Callaghans Trail
  • Drews Trail
  • Nine Mile Road
  • Allen Road  

During this time, pedestrian and vehicle access is not permitted.

Multiple roads within Myall Lakes National Park are planned for upgrade under the Infrastructure Betterment Fund Program.

Visitors can expect minor changes to access during the following timeframes (weather permitting):

  • Stoney Creek Road: March to June 2026
  • Bombah Point Road: March 2026 to April 2026 
  • Yagon Road: May to June 2026 
  • Mungo Brush Road – Stage 2: July to Oct 2026

Closed areas: Trails within Black Bulga SCA closed due to severe weather event

Trevor Tops Rd in Black Bulga State Conservation Area and Cabbage Tree Rd in Chichester State Forest (Main Creek area) are closed until further notice due to impacts from flooding and severe weather.

Roads leading to the reserve have been damaged and pose a hazard to road users. NPWS will reopen the trails once flood impacts have been remediated.

Closed parks: The Glen Nature Reserve closed due to landslips and flood damage

The Glen Nature Reserve is closed until further notice to allow contractors to undertake landslip remediation. The closure has been put in place for the safety of both visitors and the contractors. The planned works and this closure may be weather dependent.

Closed areas: Tomago precinct: intermittent closures for feral animal control (ground shooting)

On selected nights between 4 September 2025 and 30 June 2026, the Tomago precinct of Hunter Wetlands National Park will be closed for ground shooting operations targeting feral deer. When operations are active, affected areas will be signposted “Do not enter.”

Other feral animals, including rabbits and foxes, will be targeted if observed during the operations.

Yacaaba Headland walking track, in southern Myall Lakes National Park at Hawks Nest, is open to a viewing point. Beyond this point the track is closed for visitor safety.
