Fire bans: Shoalhaven park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office Nowra 02 4428 6300 or Ulladulla 02 4454 9500 before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Upcoming closure of Meroo Head and Sunburnt Beach campgrounds for tree hazard management

Meroo Head and Sunburnt Beach campgrounds in Meroo National Park will be temporarily closed for several days during November 2018 due to tree hazard maintenance work. The dates the campgrounds will be closed are:

  • 3pm Monday 26 November to 4 pm Friday 30 November 2018.

All vehicles and camping equipment must be removed from campsites and car parks.

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Solid fuel fires will be allowed at Pretty Beach campground, Pebbly Beach campground and Depot Beach campground within Murramarang National Park only if:

  • it is not a Total Fire Ban day
  • the fire is for the purpose of cooking
  • the fire is in a permanently constructed fireplace
  • at a site surrounded by ground that is cleared of all combustible materials for a distance of at least two metres all around
  • the fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

As per the RFS guidelines for the use of fire during the Bush Fire Danger Period (1 October 2018 to 31 March 2019).

1080 fox and wild dog baiting program in the Kangaroo Valley, Budgong and Illaroo from Monday 25 June 2018 through to 31 December 2018.

Baits have been placed on private properties, council reserves, NPWS estate, Water NSW estate and vacant Crown land. Areas with 1080 baits are sign-posted with dates and information about the baiting methods.

  • Do not touch bait or ejector devices.
  • Dog owners should not allow their dogs to wander in these areas because your dog could be poisoned.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting the program in these areas to protect the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. Visit the Friends of the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby website to find out more about them.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking baiting of wild dogs using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits within Morton National Park. The program will take place from Monday 18 June 2018 and finish on Friday 21 December 2018.

This baiting program is in accordance with the 1080 Wild Dog Baiting provisions in the Pesticide Control (1080 Liquid Concentrate and Bait Products) Order 2017.

The program will target the following sections of the park:

  • Croobyar/Little Forest
  • 12 Mile Road
  • Kingiman Road
  • Sassafras
  • Endrick River/Alum Creek

Precautions will be taken to minimise the risk to pets and other non-target species. Please remember, it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act to allow domestic animals into national parks and nature reserves or to interfere with the wild dog control program.

This  control work is part of the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species conservation program aimed at protecting threatened species in particular shorebirds.  All baited areas are signposted. Closed areas: Burrill Lake culture heritage walk changes

Some areas around Burrill Lake in Meroo National Park will be closed in 2018. The closures are due to construction and works to improve visitor facilities and recreational opportunities. A new Aboriginal walking trail will be constructed which will use some sections of Burrill Lake Drive. To ensure public safety, these sections of the trail will be closed to public vehicles in 2018 and will be for use by walkers only.

The closed areas include:

  • Picnic areas around Burrill Lake
  • Sections of Burrill Lake Road
  • Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Interpretive walking trail that follows the Burrill Lake foreshore

Closed areas: Access to base of Belmore Falls prohibited

All access is closed permanently from Hindmarsh and Belmore Falls lookout and picnic area down to the base of the Belmore falls due to safety risks. Access is also closed from the causeway to the top of the falls. These access points are prohibited to visitors and penalties apply for non-compliance. NPWS will be conducting a wild dog control program from October 2017 to October 2018 for wild dogs. The program will include trapping and the use of 1080  (sodium fluoroacetate) poison baits. The program will be undertaken in the Sassafras-Tolwong-Touga area of Morton National Park. Visitors are advised not to touch traps or baits. Please be aware that domestic pets could be affected as 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats. Pet owners and landowners must ensure their pets and working dogs do not enter baited reserves.
