Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

An aerial and ground baiting program will occur from Monday 10 May and Sunday 10 October 2021. All baiting locations will be identified by signs. The operation will involve the use of meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed parks: Park closed due to severe weather event

This park is closed due to the severe weather event that included heavy rain, damaging winds and consequential widespread flooding. 

For your safety, please avoid this reserve. NPWS is conducting condition assessments of access roads and visitor precincts to determine the extent of the damage and to rectify safety issues.

This closure will be reviewed weekly, however it is expected some reserves will be impacted for an extended period due to extensive damage.

Closed areas: Most of Myall Lakes National Park closed due to flood

Most areas in Myall Lakes National Park continue to be severely impacted by flooding. Flood waters entering the Myall Lake system have inundated campgrounds and roads.

Most campgrounds remain closed for an extended period. All roads west of the Pacific Highway remain closed, pending further assessment from NPWS.

Please avoid all waterways due to public health risk and navigational safety issues.

The following campgrounds are open:

  • Banksia Green
  • Stewart and Lloyds
  • Yagon

NPWS is progressively reopening parts of the park as it is safe to do so.

Heavy rain has caused landslides that are blocking walking tracks, and the area is not safe for visitors. The area needs to be made safe, and extensive repairs and assessment are required before opening.

Closed areas: Fingal Island access trail and Point Stephens Lighthouse - closed to vehicles

The Fingal Island access trail and Point Stephens Lighthouse are closed to vehicles.

The sea conditions at the spit are variable, unpredictable and subject to change at short notice. People have drowned attempting to cross the Fingal Spit, and even at low tides the spit can be impacted by fast-moving water.

Closed areas: Ocean Rocks walking track

Ocean Rocks walking track in Tomaree National Park is closed due to landslide from Thursday 20 February 2020. Signs will be in place around the closed area.

All main visitor areas, including Tomaree Summit walk, will remain open. You can still access Tomaree Head via Tomaree Summit walk.
