Closed parks: Corrie Island Nature Reserve closed to protect nesting threatened shorebirds

Corrie Island Nature Reserve is closed from Friday 1 September 2026 to Sunday 7 March 2027 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.

Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.

During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.

Yacaaba Headland walking track, in southern Myall Lakes National Park at Hawks Nest, is open to a viewing point. Beyond this point the track is closed for visitor safety.

Yacaaba Spit track remains open and people can continue to walk along the beach.
