Platypus Flat is still recovering from the 2019/20 bushfires. One of the two toilet blocks was destroyed by these fires. Until a new facility is constructed, a set of portaloos are available for campers to use in addition to the surviving toilet block.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs in this park from Tuesday 23 June to Tuesday 22 December 2020. This program will use meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Vehicle access to Doon Goonge campground and Shannon Creek forest drive is not available. The 2019/20 bushfires have resulted in major landslips on state forest, and two major bridges have been destroyed. To access the campground, use Quartz Road.

Closed areas: Boambee footbridge closed on Solitary Islands Coastal walk

The footbridge over Boambee creek has been closed by Coffs Harbour City Council until further notice as it has has been deemed structurally unsafe for pedestrian use. The footbridge is part of Solitary Islands Coastal Walk.

Please use an alternative route, either via Hogbin Drive for a dry crossing, or where safe wading the creek upstream of the railway bridge at low tide. For more information, call the NPWS Coffs Coast area office on 02 6652 0900.

NSW National Parks is monitoring wild dogs and foxes and running a 1080 pest management program:

  • Baiting is happening in Yuraygir National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.
  • Baiting is happening in Everlasting Swamp State Conservation Area and National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.

There will be signs at baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions.

NPWS may also run additional programs following these initial programs, depending on wild dog activity.

Roadworks are happening on Middle Creek Bridge from Thursday 23 July to Monday 30 November 2020. Sherwood Creek Road is closed at Middle Creek Bridge during this time. The only access to the Middle Creek / Scout Falls area is from the Glenreagh side. Drive safely and follow the directions of roadworks signs.

A 1080 fox baiting program will be conducted in Moonee Beach Nature Reserve from Tuesday 11 August 2020 until Sunday 28 February 2021. This program is vitally important to the long-term survival of threatened and endangered shorebirds, including the pied oystercatcher.

Dogs are not permitted in NSW national parks. Non-target animals may be affected by 1080 baits. Ensure that dogs are not exposed to the risk of poison baits.

Safety alerts: Asbestos risk on New England Wilderness walk

On the Brinerville section of the Wilderness walk there are several buildings destroyed by bushfire that contain asbestos. These sites are identified with warning signs. Walkers must not approach any destroyed buildings due to the risks from burnt/friable asbestos. The asbestos will be removed in the coming months as part of bushfire recovery works.

Please use McPhillips Road, off the new Pacific Highway, to get to Pebbly Beach and Station Creek campgrounds. Barcoongere Way is not recommended for any vehicles due to severe road damage.

Closed areas: Grey Cliff stairs closed

The stairs from Grey Cliff campground to the beach are closed. The stairs have been washed away because of the large swell from Cyclone Oma. Visitors can't access the beach via these stairs.

Visitors can access the beach via the old vehicle beach access point 250m north of the stairs.

Closed areas: Angourie Back Beach - staircase removed

Walkers on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk are advised that the staircase at the southern end of Angourie Back Beach has been removed due to safety concerns. All walkers should commence the walk via the track at Mara Creek picnic area, as there is no longer access from the beach. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
