Safety alerts: No driving on dunes, except for in the Recreational Vehicle Area
All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay access areas are closed to driving. Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA). The RVA is located south of the Lavis Lane access, and is now open for dune driving.
Be aware of tides. At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable. Plan your trip so that you travel at low tide. If the beachfront is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes.
We recommend that you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information.

Closed areas: Samurai Beach and campground
Beach front driving at Samurai Beach in Tomaree National Park is closed from Wednesday 3 March 2021 until further notice.
Large swells and high tides experienced over the past days have swamped the beach. Wave action has caused sand erosion and created steep drop offs and large areas of very soft sand, making the beach impassable and unsafe for vehicles.
There is insufficient beach remaining to allow safe access by 4WD vehicles, forcing the temporary closure of beach driving and Samurai campground.
Drivers are reminded not to drive on the frontal dune or any vegetation at any time. Fines apply.
Park closure signs have been installed at all entrances and NPWS staff will be advising visitors of the closure. NPWS will continue to monitor the conditions and will re-open the beach when conditions improve.
Please note that Worimi Consevation Lands are also temporarily closed to vehicles and will be re-opened once beach conditions improve.

Beachfront driving from Gan Gan Road at Anna Bay to Lavis Lane at Williamtown in the Worimi Conservation Lands is closed to all vehicles from Wednesday 3 March 2021 until further notice for public safety and to protect the important cultural landscape. Large swell combined with high tides has created erosion, soft sand and steep drop-offs, making the beach impassable to all vehicles.
Dune driving in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA) south of the Lavis Lane entrance remains open, and is accessible via the Lavis Lane entrance only. Staff will continue to monitor the conditions and will re-open the beachfront to driving when conditions improve.
