Closed areas: Hazardous conditions - Bush fire damage

The southern section of Ben Boyd National Park (Green Cape area) is closed due to bushfire damage and hazardous conditions. Large fires have impacted the southern section of the park including all visitor attractions, access roads, walking trails, lookout points, picnic areas and campgrounds.

The following Southern Ben Boyd areas are open:

  • Green Cape precinct and accommodation
  • Disaster Bay lookout
  • Bittangabee Bay and campground
  • Saltwater campground

All other visitor attractions and walking trails will remain closed for a number of months. 

The Northern Pambula - Haycock section of Ben Boyd National Park, located between Merimbula and Eden, is open.

Safety alerts: No campfires or solid fuel fires at Middle Beach campground

For visitor safety, campfires and solid fuel fires (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) are not permitted at Middle Beach campground or picnic area.

The use of gas-fired, liquid fuel and electrical appliances will be permitted where the appliance:

  • is under the direct control of an adult
  • placed or located in an area where there is no combustible material within 2m
  • there is an adequate water supply to extinguish fire should it start next to the appliances
  • and it is not a Total Fire Ban
