The following parks, reserves and areas will be closed from 2pm on Sunday 15 March until 10am on Saturday 21 March 2026 for a pest management program:

  • Beowa National Park (Green Cape area), including, Green Cape Lighthouse, Light to Light walk, Bittangabee campground, Mowarry campground and Saltwater Creek campgrounds
  • Nadgee Nature Reserve, including Nadgee Wilderness Walk
  • South East Forest National Park (Nungatta area) 

The main thoroughfares through the Nungatta area will remain open. However, residents, visitors and members of the public should not enter adjoining sections of the National Park that will be closed.

This program will involve aerial shooting during daylight hours. Feral species targeted under this program include deer, foxes and other pests. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals, including threatened species.

The closed areas will be signposted at relevant access points. Please avoid these areas and do not enter closed areas during this time. Please follow any directions from NPWS staff and authorised contractors.

Safety alerts: Nadgee Wilderness Walk - Modified Permits

  • The Nadgee Wilderness Area will be re-opened to all locations north of Nadgee Beach and Nadgee Lake. This will commence Friday 29th Jan 2026.
  • The northern section of the Wilderness Walk is open. Walkers can be permitted to go as far south as Nadgee Lake camp and Nadgee Beach
  • Harrys Hut and Little River will be the furthest south reliable drinking water sources
  • The entire Wilderness Walk through to Mallacoota will be reopened once the Victorian section is confirmed as safe from Victorian authorities – due to the Baracoota fire

Closed areas: Nunnock Swamp area including Packers Swamp and Dragon Swamp closed for ground pest control operation

The Tantawangalo section of South East Forests National Park will be closed to the public from 8am Tuesday 10th February to 8am Saturday 21st February 2026 for a ground pest control operation.

The closed areas include:

  • Nunnock campground
  • Nunnock grasslands walking tracks
  • Alexanders Hut
  • Alexanders Hut campground
  • Packers Swamp
  • Dragon Swamp

This operation will involve ground shooting of deer and feral pigs during day time or night as required. It aims to reduce the significant impact invasive species have on native plants and animals including threatened species. Other pest animals, including foxes and wild dogs may be targeted if observed during the operation.

Park closure warning signs will be placed at entrances to the shooting area. Do not enter the closed area during shooting periods Penalties apply for non-compliance.

The following campgrounds will remain open to the public:

  • Six Mile Creek campground
  • Postmans campground

The Green Cape Lightstation Keepers' Cottages and Telegraph Station accommodation are currently closed to visitors whilst NPWS undertakes refurbishment works to these buildings. Green Cape car park, lookout and surrounding walking tracks remain open during this time.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Thursday 1 January 2026 to Tuesday 30 June 2026. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and/or foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species and will take place in:

  • Araluen Nature Reserve
  • Badja Swamps Nature Reserve
  • Beowa National Park
  • Berlang State Conservation Area
  • Bondi Gulf Nature Reserve
  • Bournda National Park
  • Bournda Nature Reserve
  • Coolumbooka Nature Reserve
  • Deua National Park
  • Eurobodalla National Park
  • Kooraban National Park
  • Majors Creek State Conservation Area
  • Mimosa Rocks National Park
  • Monga National Park and State Conservation Area
  • South East Forest National Park
  • Wadbilliga National Park

Signs will be placed at the entry to baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands.

Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Kanoonah Road (north) closed due to landslip

Kanoonah Road in Coolangubra section of South East Forests National Park is closed from Myanba Falls Road through to the northern park boundary due to a major landslip.
