The following parks, reserves and areas will be closed from 2pm Sunday 17th of March until 2pm Friday 22nd of March 2024 for an aerial pest control operation:

  • Beowa National Park, Including the Light to Light walk, Green Cape Lighthouse, Bittangabee campground and Saltwater campground
  • Nadgee Nature Reserve, Including the Nadgee Wilderness Walk
  • The Waalimma and Genoa section of South East Forest National Park (Nungatta area)

Main thoroughfares through the Nungatta section of South East Forest NP will remain open however residents, visitors and members of the public should not enter adjoining closed sections of National Park.

This program will involve aerial shooting during daylight hours. Feral species targeted under this program include deer, goats, pigs, foxes and other pests. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species.

The closed areas will be sign-posted at relevant access points. Visitors should avoid these areas and not enter the closed areas during this time. Please follow directions from NPWS officers and NPWS authorised contractors.

The following sections of park will be closed to the public from 2pm Sunday 24 March until 2pm Thursday 28 March 2024 for an aerial pest control operation:

  • Badja Swamps Nature Reserve
  • Deua National Park – West of Merricumbene Fire Trail
  • South East Forest National Park including: Alexanders campground and Nunnock campground
  • Wadbilliga National Park – West of Wadbilliga 

Campgrounds in Deua National Park and Wadbilliga National Park will remain open during this operation.

Closure signs will be established at all visitor access points to the shooting area. Visitors should not enter the shooting area during the closure period.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Saturday 1 July 2023 to Sunday 30 June 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.
The program will take place in:

  • Beowa National Park
  • Bournda National Park
  • Bournda Nature Reserve 
  • Deua National Park
  • Eurobodalla National Park
  • Mimosa Rocks National Park
  • Monga National Park and State Conservation Area
  • South East Forest National Park (Yowaka Section and North of Snowy Mountain Hwy)
  • Wadbilliga National Park

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species. 

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. 

Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
