Closed areas: Sunnyside campground closed

Sunnyside campground will be closed indefinitely until major works have been completed.

Closed areas: Most of Myall Lakes National Park closed due to flood

Most areas in Myall Lakes National Park continue to be severely impacted by flooding. Flood waters entering the Myall Lake system have inundated campgrounds and roads.

Most campgrounds remain closed for an extended period. All roads west of the Pacific Highway remain closed, pending further assessment from NPWS.

Please avoid all waterways due to public health risk and navigational safety issues.

The following campgrounds are open:

  • Banksia Green
  • Stewart and Lloyds
  • Yagon

NPWS is progressively reopening parts of the park as it is safe to do so.

Other planned events: Closures for aerial spraying program

A number of areas will be closed for an aerial weed spraying program between 10 May and Friday 25 June 2021. The closed areas will be in the following National Parks:

  • Booti Booti National Park
  • Saltwater National Park
  • Tomaree National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Khapphinghat Nature Reserve
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve
  • and some adjoining Crown Lands

Certain areas will be closed for 1-2 days while the helicopter spraying of bitou bush is conducted. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please follow safety signs and directions given by staff. The herbicide used is Metsulfuron-methyl 600WG.

Closed parks: Wallingat National Park closure - major road upgrade

Wallingat National Park is closed from Monday 8 March 2021 until Tuesday 31 August 2021. The closure is to allow for major roadworks including drainage upgrades and replacement of damaged bridges to improve access within the park.

This work is weather dependent and the closure will be reviewed in late June based on progress of the work.

Other planned events: Campground amenity upgrades

The Ruins campground main amenities building will be closed from 19 April 2021 to September 2021 for upgrades.

The Ruins campground will remain open during the construction period, however will operate at a 50 percent capacity. The beachside amenities building will be open providing shower and toilet facilities for campers. Campers may experience construction noise on week days between the hours of 7am to 4pm.

Park info

  • in Myall Lakes National Park in the North Coast region
  • Myall Lakes National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day.

    The park has coin/card operated pay machines at Mungo Brush campground. NPWS staff regularly visit areas to collect day use fees. Day passes are also available from the Manning Great Lakes Area Office, Tea Gardens Visitor Information Centre and the Hawks Nest Newsagency.

    Bombah Point ferry fees may also apply (cash payment only).
