Closed areas: Partial closure of Wattamolla picnic area and The Coast track

Wattamolla picnic area is partially closed on Wednesday 24 October and Thursday 25 October 2018 from 6am to 5pm due to helicopter operations.

Access to Providential Point and The Coast track will remain open, but walkers should expect delays. Visitors will be guided through affected areas during the helicopter operations.

The affected areas include:

  • Wattamolla picnic area
  • Sections of The Coast track, between Wattamolla and Curracurrang

 Access to Wattamolla lagoon and beach will remain open.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

A 1080 fox baiting program is underway at Towra Point Nature Reserve, and will finish on Saturday 31 March 2019.

The program is part of the NPWS FoxTap program, and is designed to control foxes to assist in recovery of little terns and pied oystercatchers. 

1080 poison can affect non-target species like domestic dogs and cats.

The Bonnie Vale campground is currently closed and will remain closed until further notice. This closure is to allow for the remediation of asbestos containing material surfacing onsite.

Closed areas: Walking tracks upgrade

Access to walking tracks between Cape Banks and Henry Head will be affected from September 2018 to January 2019 due to track upgrades.

  • Cape Banks walking track is open, but there is no access to Henry Head. Expect some delays due to construction.
  • The track from Cape Banks to Henry Head is closed.
  • Henry Head walking track is open to Cruwee Beach. The track is closed from Cruwee Beach to Cape Banks.

Closed areas: Areas closed due to rock falls

Some areas of this park are closed to public access due to rock fall hazards. Closed areas are: 

  • The northern section of the Mt Keira Ring track that extends west from the Mt Pleasant track to the stairs leading up to Queen Elizabeth Drive
  • All areas above Mt Keira Ring track to Mt Keira summit, except for the Dave Walsh track and the rock-climbing area on the western face of Mt Keira.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.
