Closed areas: Sea Acres Boardwalk partially closed

Sea Acres Rainforest boardwalk is partially closed to allow for critical maintenance of the structure. Most of the boardwalk remains open, allowing access from the entry of the walk, out and back. The access fee is reduced to half price.

This work will be ongoing for some months, and its duration will be weather dependent. The partial closure will be reviewed on Monday 1 November 2021.

The Rainforest Centre, Rainforest Cafe and Coastal walk remain open.

Several Parks within the Hastings Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage. Access and camping is not permitted.

Widespread flooding has resulted in extensive damage to roads, campgrounds and other park facilities.

Closures are in place until 8am Friday 1 October 2021. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.

Middle Brother National Park is closed due to extensive flood damage to roads, bridges and other park facilities.

The closure is likely to be for an extended period. The park will be reopened as soon as it is safe to access.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using red meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of Foxes and Wild Dogs.

The program will be continuous and ongoing between Sunday 30 May 2021 and Saturday 30 October 2021 in the following, parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The toilet at Cedar Park has been damaged by a fallen tree and is out of order. NPWS are working towards a replacement and there are no other toilet facilities available at the picnic area.

Repair works are underway to replace 2 bridges in the Breinerville precinct that were damaged in the 2019/2020 bushfires.

If you plan to take New England wilderness walk, please watch out for heavy machinery and observe road signage. Both sites are easily diverted by walking down the creek below the bridges. For further information contact NPWS Coffs Coast area office on 02 6652 0900.

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk - Not suitable during rain or high river levels

The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain.  River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.

Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.

Closed parks: Yessabah Nature Reserve permanently closed

Access to Yessabah Nature Reserve is permanently closed to unauthorised personnel. The former quarry area has limestone rock faces that are unstable and prone to rock fall. Other areas of the reserve are geologically unstable.

Closed areas: Area permanently closed - Mermaid Pools

Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.

Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.

Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.

The historic Roto House within Roto House Historic Site is closed for until further notice. Reopening planning is underway for after the Covid restrictions change.

The grounds and carpark of Roto House Historic Site remain open to the public.
