Dooragan National Park remains closed to vehicles as the access road via Captain Cook Bicentennial drive is closed.

Smoky Cape campground remains closed until Monday 10 May 2021 for repair of storm and flood damage. 

For alternative campgrounds nearby, visit Trial Bay campground at South West Rocks or  Hungry Gate campground in Hat Head National Park.

4WD beach access at Smoky Cape campground is now repaired and has reopened.

Other planned events: Closed areas for aerial spraying program

A number of areas will be closed for an aerial herbicide spraying operation between Monday 10 May 2021 and Friday 25 June 2021. For public safety, the areas being treated will be closed on the day they are sprayed. Advice on specific areas to be closed will be provided a week prior to spraying.

This spraying program is being carried out to control bitou bush on headlands and beaches in:

  • Booti Booti National Park
  • Saltwater National Park
  • Tomaree National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Darawank Nature Reserve
  • Khapphinghat Nature Reserve
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve
  • and some adjoining Crown Lands

The program is expected to take 8 to 10 days to complete, weather dependent.

The herbicide used is Metsulfuron methyl 600WG. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please ensure you follow the advice on all warning signs and the directions given by staff.

Closed parks: Park closed due to severe weather event

This park is closed due to the severe weather event that included heavy rain, damaging winds and consequential widespread flooding. 

For your safety, please avoid this reserve. NPWS is conducting condition assessments of access roads and visitor precincts to determine the extent of the damage and to rectify safety issues.

This closure will be reviewed weekly, however it is expected some reserves will be impacted for an extended period due to extensive damage.

Several parks in the Hastings-Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage.

Camping is not permitted in closed parks.

These closures are due to widespread flooding and extensive damage to roads, campgrounds and other park facilities. Parks will be reopened as soon as they are safe to access. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.

Closed areas: Sea Acres Boardwalk partially closed

The Sea Acres Rainforest boardwalk will be partially closed from Tuesday the 4th of May 2021 to allow for maintenence of the structure. Most of the boardwalk remains open allowing out and back access from both directions. The access fee is reduced to half price. The boardwalk will be re opened completely on weekends, public holidays and school holidays and returned to full price. 
This work will be ongoing through the winter months and its duration will be weather dependent. 

The Rainforest Centre, Cafe and Coastal walk remain open.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 Program - Post Fire Pest Relief Program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Monday 10 May to Sunday 23 May 2021. The operation will involve the use of meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes and wild dogs.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Five Islands, Duck Holes, and Moor Creek walking tracks remain closed until dangerous tree works are complete, a pedestrian bridge is reinstalled (Five Islands) and tree risk assessment is completed.
