Safety alerts: Station Creek and Pebbly Beach campgrounds - 4WD access only

Access to Station Creek and Pebbly Beach campgrounds in Yuraygir National Park is currently suitable for 4WD vehicles only. This is due to a major washout on Barcoongere Way caused by floodwater, making the road impassable. This alternate bypass is rough and could be slippery. NPWS will advise via this website when 2WD access is available.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using buried meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs. The program will be conducted between Friday 12 June and Friday 10 July 2020 in Deervale Nature Reserve, Junuy Juluum Nature Reserve, Cascade National Park, Bindarri National Park and Dorrigo National Park.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Aerial bitou bush control program

Some sections of Yuraygir coastal walk (walking tracks and associated beaches) will be closed for approximately 4hrs between Monday 15 June 2020 and Wednesday 15 July 2020 for an aerial bitou bush treatment operation. The operation will be completed within 2 days, and will target the following coastal dune areas along Yuraygir Coastal walk:

  • Shelley campground, between Angourie/Mara Creek day use areas and Lake Arragan campground.
  • Between Lake Arragan campground and Brooms head village
  • Between Brooms head and Sandon campground
  • Between Sandon Village to Minnie Water Village
  • Between Wooli Village and Pebbly campground

The operation will also target remote western dune areas between Pebbly and Red Rock Village.

The bitou bush will be treated using Round up Biactive, active constituent 360 g/L GLYPHOSATE (present as the isopropylamine salt). NPWS officers will be onsite to advise of the closure on the day, and once the operation has been completed.

NSW National Parks is monitoring wild dogs and foxes, and running a 1080 pest management program.

Baiting will be undertaken in Yuraygir National Park from Thursday 10 October 2019 until Tuesday 30 June 2020.

Baiting will be undertaken in Everlasting Swamp State Conservation Area and National Park from Monday 14 October 2019 until Tuesday 30 June 2020.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. Please be aware of the baiting programs and avoid bait stations in all areas, at all times. There will be signs up in areas where baits have been laid, indicating the date the baits were placed.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions. NPWS may also run additional programs following these initial programs, depending on wild dog activity.

Safety alerts: Barcoongere Way not recommended for vehicles

Please use McPhillips Road, off the new Pacific Highway, to get to Pebbly Beach and Station Creek campgrounds. Barcoongere Way is not recommended for any vehicles due to severe road damage.

Closed areas: Grey Cliff stairs closed

The stairs from Grey Cliff campground to the beach are closed. The stairs have been washed away because of the large swell from Cyclone Oma. Visitors can't access the beach via these stairs.

Visitors can access the beach via the old vehicle beach access point 250m north of the stairs.

Closed areas: Angourie Back Beach - staircase removed

Walkers on the Yuraygir Coastal Walk are advised that the staircase at the southern end of Angourie Back Beach has been removed due to safety concerns. All walkers should commence the walk via the track at Mara Creek picnic area, as there is no longer access from the beach. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
