Please note that NPWS staff will be undertaking a walking track survey in this location from November to early December 2023.

The survey will involve NPWS staff carrying a 360-degree camera to visually record walking track features, as part of an annual asset maintenance assessment.

This information is to ensure quality safe NPWS walking tracks for public enjoyment.

You'll be able to identify this survey as NPWS staff will be dressed in uniform carrying an above-head mounted camera.

NPWS respects your privacy. If you do not wish to be filmed, please respectfully ask the NPWS staff member to pause the camera until you pass out of camera frame.

The survey will be undertaken across multiple parks during November 2023, so will involve only very minimal time at each location and will be scheduled outside peak visitation times, so the survey it is unlikely to affect visitors.

Crystal Shower Falls walk is partially closed from The Glade picnic area until Saturday 16 December 2023. The closure is to allow construction works to take place. Access to the falls remains open from Dorrigo Rainforest Centre via the lower Wonga walk.

Wonga walk will be completely re-opened during school holidays from Saturday 16 December 2023. Partial closures will be re-introduced after the school holidays, on Tuesday 30 January 2024.

Closed areas: Ngambaa Feral Predator Free Area Construction Commenced

Construction has commenced on the Ngambaa Feral Predator-Free Area which has necessitated the closure of roads in the reserve for visitor safety. 

 

Cedar Park picnic area will remain open during this period.

 

The following roads will be subject to temporary closures over the course of the construction phase:

  • Wittigs Road
  • parts of Stockyard Creek Road
  • Seams Road
  • Jacks Road
  • Buds Crossing Road
  • Sergents Road

 

Construction works are expected to take 6 to 8 months to complete thirty kilometres of fencing and other works.

Construction works include:

  • clearing the fence corridor
  • building the fence
  • installing bridge and culvert crossings.

Other planned events: Urumbilum Creek Road - Road Closure due to Bridge Replacement

NPWS are replacing the Timber Bridge on Urumbilum Creek Road as the bridge has reached end of life. The timber structure will be replaced with a pre cast concrete and steel bridge. The road will be closed for the duration of the project and the closure is expected to last for 4 weeks subject to weather. The closure will commence on Wednesday 22nd November until 15th December.

Roadworks will be underway on Carrai Road from Monday 20th November to Friday 1st December 2023. Works will be between Kookaburra and Haydonville. The road may be uneven and slippery during this time. Drive safely and follow the directions of roadwork signs and staff.

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.

Closed areas: Landslip on Hanging Rock Road in State forest

Access to Kosekai Lookout is currently NOT possible via Hanging Rock Road due to a section of Hanging Rock Road being damaged during March 2021 flooding event.  The damaged section of road is managed by Forestry Corporation.  Access to the lookout is now only possible in 4WD vehicles from the south via Boat Harbour Road and then turning onto Kosekai Road

Closed areas: Part walking track closures due to track construction - Emerald Beach

Some parts of these parks are closed while upgrades are made to the walking tracks and stairs. The closed areas are:

  • Part of Dammerels Headland walking track, from Fiddamans road to the beach access stairs

Solitary Island Coastal Walk will remain open during construction. Work will be completed in stages to maintain public access. Please follow directional signage during construction.

The bridge on Slees road on the boundary of Viewmont State Forest and Bollanolla Nature Reserve has been severely impacted by the 2022 floods and is not currently trafficable.

It is not safe to cross and road closure signs have been put in place. Replacement has been scheduled.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park from 10 August 2023 to 28 February 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes. The program is designed to minimise fox impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species. Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting area. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW NPWS-managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs) and should be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and also must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance. Please contact the local Coffs Coast NPWS area office for more information on 02 6652 0900.

Closed areas: Moonee Creek south bridge (Caravan park to Green Bluff access) closed

Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge is closed until further notice, due to damage from coastal erosion.

The bridge crossing provides access:

  • To Reflections Holiday Park
  • From Moonee south to Coffs Coast Regional Park, Green Bluff and Sapphire North.

Reflections Holiday Parks have closed the bridge until further notice, due to an engineering assessment deeming the bridge unsafe for pedestrians.

If you are planning to do the Solitary Islands coastal walk please reroute:

  • West along Moonee Beach Road to the south-west corner of the shopping centre
  • South along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Highway
  • South onto southern end of North Solitary Drive
  • East onto North Sapphire Road to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe

Green Bluff is alternatively accessible from the south via Rutile trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire.

Closed areas: Area permanently closed - Mermaid Pools

Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.

Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.

Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.
