Closed areas: Cambridge Plateau partial closure - Mount Babyl to northern entrance

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed between Peacock Creek Road and Mount Babyl from Monday 18 October to Friday 22 October 2021 due to forecast rain/thunderstorms.

Peacock Creek campground will remain open, and can be accessed from the west via Peacock Creek Road or from the east via Sextonville Road.

Cambridge Plateau picnic area, Culmaran Valley track and Cambridge loop walk will remain open and are accessible from the south via the Bruxner Highway.

Mount Babyl is still accessible from the Bruxner Highway park entrance.

Closed parks: Parks closed due to flood damage - Hastings Macleay area

Several parks within the Hastings Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage. Access and camping is not permitted in closed parks.

These closures are due to widespread flooding and extensive damage to roads, bridges, campgrounds and other park facilities.

These closures are in place until 8am, Friday 31 December 2021. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.​​​​

Washpool walking track is closed from 7am Wednesday 6 October 2021 until 5pm Wednesday 27 October 2021 for urgent maintenance works in support of ongoing bushfire recovery efforts in the park.

The short loop Washpool walk remains open during this time.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed due to demolition of bridge from past flooding event. This closure applies until further notice. Closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away, at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

The program will be continuous and ongoing between Monday 14 June 2021 and Wednesday 30 June 2022 in:

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic aerial and ground baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operation will involve the use of fresh meat containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Monday 23 August 2021 to Friday 19 November 2021 in the following reserves:

  • Barool NP
  • Bolivia Hill NR
  • Cathedral Rock NP
  • Capoompeta NP
  • Gibraltar Range NP
  • Guy Fawkes River NP
  • Kwiambal NP CCAZ (Arthurs Seat)
  • Nymboida NP

This program has been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state-focused biosecurity issues.

From Tuesday 13 July to Friday 17 December 2021 NSW National Parks will be running a 1080 pest management program in the following parks:

  • Richmond River Nature Reserve
  • Broadwater National Park
  • Bundjalung National Park 

There will be signs at baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions.

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Please note:

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.
