Other planned events: Roadworks on Gap Road near Black Rocks campground

Roadworks will be occurring on Gap Road between the Pacific Highway near the town of Woodburn and Black Rocks campground in Bundjalung National Park. The works will occur from Monday 7 September to Friday 25 September 2020. The road will remain open, however please drive carefully and follow roadwork signs and traffic controllers.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access

Sections of Iron Pot Creek Road through Richmond Range State Forest are impassable for 2WD vehicles, and in very poor condition. 

To access Peacock Creek campground, use: 

  • Sextonville Road from the east
  • Peacock Creek Road from the west
  • Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive from the Bruxner Highway in the north.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs in this park from Tuesday 23 June to Tuesday 22 December 2020. This program will use meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog and fox pest management program underway

NSW National Parks is monitoring wild dogs and foxes and running a 1080 pest management program:

  • Baiting is happening in Yuraygir National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.
  • Baiting is happening in Everlasting Swamp State Conservation Area and National Park from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Wednesday 30 June 2021.

There will be signs at baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions.

NPWS may also run additional programs following these initial programs, depending on wild dog activity.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed due to demolition of bridge from past flooding event. This closure applies until further notice. Closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away, at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
