Safety alerts: Kingiman fire rehabilitation work - road closures

There will be heavy machinery works along roads in the Mount Kingiman, Croobyar area in Morton National Park, to repair damage caused by the Kingiman fire in August 2018. Some roads may be temporarily closed during the works, including:

  • Kingiman Road
  • Elephant Road
  • Carriages Road/Northern Buffer trail

Closed areas: Part of Minnamurra Rainforest Loop walk closed

The Minnamurra Rainforest Loop walk will be partially closed due to construction work from Tuesday 19 February 2019. The walk will be closed from the second bridge to the outdoor classroom. The Falls walk will remain open.

Closed areas: Pigeon House Mountain Didthul walking track, carpark and access road closed

Pigeon House Mountain Didthul walking track, carpark and access road will be temporarily closed from Monday 4 March to Thursday 11 April 2019. These areas will be closed so that steel ladders and platforms near the summit of the mountain can be repaired and upgraded.

Closed areas: Boardwalk closed on Falcon Crescent link track

The boardwalk on Falcon Crescent link track is damaged and will remain closed until Thursday 30 May 2019. There is a temporary route for walkers around the damaged infrastructure. This route may be closed for short periods during the removal and installation of a new section of boardwalk. The boardwalk was damaged by fire in August 2018.

A 1080 fox baiting program will occur from Friday 1 February 2019 to Sunday 30 June 2019 in Jervis Bay National Park. The 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) will be buried baits or ejector capsules which are laid on tracks and trails. Do not touch baits or ejector devices as they contain poison. 1080 is lethal to dogs and cats, and pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks.

The Carrington Falls precinct in Budderoo National Park has reopened after remedial work to repair infrastructure damaged by fire. There may be minor temporary disruptions during 2019 as work continues with some partial closures in place. This may limit access to the staircase and some sections of Carrington Falls and the loop track.

Baits have been placed on private properties, council reserves, the NSW National Parks estate, the Water NSW estate and vacant Crown land. Areas with 1080 baits are sign-posted with dates and information about the baiting methods.

  • Do not touch bait or ejector devices.
  • Dog owners should not allow their dogs to wander in these areas because 1080 is poisonous to domestic animals, like dogs.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting the 1080 program in these areas to protect the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. Visit the Friends of the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby website to find out more about them.

Please refer to the cross-hatched areas on the attached map which shows land within 1km of any baiting stations.

NPWS will be conducting a wild dog control program from October 2017 to October 2018 for wild dogs. The program will include trapping and the use of 1080  (sodium fluoroacetate) poison baits. The program will be undertaken in the Sassafras-Tolwong-Touga area of Morton National Park. Visitors are advised not to touch traps or baits. Please be aware that domestic pets could be affected as 1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats. Pet owners and landowners must ensure their pets and working dogs do not enter baited reserves.
