Safety alerts: Neranie road works

The entrance road to Naranie campground, boat ramp and picnic areas (Neranie Road) in Myall Lakes National Park is undergoing maintenance. Visitors should also expect minor traffic disruptions and visitors are reminded to drive safely and follow the directions of roadwork signs and traffic control.

Closed areas: Flood affected areas within Myall Lakes National Park

The following areas in Myall Lakes National Park are temporarily closed due to flood impact:

  • Multiple campgrounds and associated picnic areas (see list of affected areas)
  • Yagon Road
  • Gas barbecues at Neranie and Mungo Brush picnic areas.

NPWS is working towards reopening these areas as soon as possible.

No NPWS supplied gas barbecues are operational at Neranie campground and picnic areas due to recent storm damage. Visitors are advised to bring their own portable gas barbecues when visiting the area.

Multiple roads within Myall Lakes National Park are planned for upgrade under the Infrastructure Betterment Fund Program.

Visitors can expect minor changes to access during the following timeframes (weather permitting):

  • Neranie Road: Oct – Nov 2025 
  • Korsmans Road: Oct – Dec 2025 
  • Mungo Brush Road - Stage 1 Reseal: 20 Oct to 7 Nov 2025 
  • Stoney Creek Road: Nov 2025 to March 2026
  • Bombah Point Road: Oct 2025 to March 2026 
  • Yagon Road: March – April 2026 
  • Mungo Brush Road – Stage 2: July - Oct 2026

Safety alerts: Worimi Conservation Lands Op en - Take Care when traversing the beachfront

Visitors are advised that beach front driving has reopened in the Worimi Conservation Lands.

Take caution at a pinch point 14km to 16km south of the Gan Gan entry, and do not attempt to drive this section if less than 2 hours before or after high tide.

Please remember to:

  • Look out for storm debris, soft sand, erosion, washouts and drop-offs,
  • Avoid driving through seawater, foam or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly.
  • Check conditions before arriving, and if in doubt save your trip for another day.

Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel and/or signage. Do not drive over or behind the frontal dune or on any vegetation.

Closed parks: Corrie Island Nature Reserve closed for shorebird nesting season

Corrie Island Nature Reserve is closed from Friday 1 August 2023 to Sunday 31 March 2026 for the protection of beach-nesting shorebirds.

Corrie Island is an important breeding site for endangered little terns and pied oystercatchers. The island is closed to visitors for the duration of the nesting season to reduce disturbance that can cause egg or chick deaths.

During the closure period visitors may not land anywhere on Corrie Island, and only NPWS staff and authorised volunteers are allowed on the island. Pest control activities may be undertaken on the island during this time.

Closed areas: Yacaaba Headland walking track partial closure

Yacaaba Headland walking track, in southern Myall Lakes National Park at Hawks Nest, is open to a viewing point. Beyond this point the track is closed for visitor safety.

Yacaaba Spit track remains open and people can continue to walk along the beach.
