Other incidents: Booti Walking Track

A number of areas will be closed for an aerial weed spraying program between 3rd June and 30th June 2024. The closed areas in Booti Booti National Park will be sections of 7-Mile Beach, Northern entrance to Booti Hill and some adjoining Crown Lands.

 

Certain areas will be closed for 1-2 days while the Aerial spraying of Bitou Bush is conducted. NPWS staff will be present during the Remotely Piloted Aircraft spray operation and will patrol the closures to ensure it is cleared of people prior to spraying. Please follow safety signs and directions given by staff. The herbicide used is Metsulfuron-methyl 600WG under APVMA Permit number 12363.

Closed areas: Beach front partially closed to vehicles

Beach front driving is temporarily closed between the Gan Gan entry at Anna Bay and the Lavis Lane entry at Williamtown from Friday 14 June to Tuesday 18 June, due to hazardous surf conditions and beach erosion.

The following areas are open for 4WD access:

  • Lavis Lane entry
  • Recreational vehicle area
  • Ganyamalbaa campground

Please remember to:

  • Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs.
  • Avoid driving through sea water, foam or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly. Several vehicles on this beach have ended up in the ocean or swamped by water.
  • Check forecast conditions and warnings before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day.

Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife staff and signs. Do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation.

Big Rocky Trail is closed from Wednesday 12 to Tuesday 18 June 2024 while NPWS contractors undertake upgrade works. Walk in access to Big Rocky is still available via the Tomaree Coastal Walk.

Closed areas: Lavis Lane 4WD Track closed for maintenance - Tuesday 18 June

Visitors are advised that the Lavis Lane 4WD beach access at Williamtown will be temporarily closed on Tuesday 18 June 2024 to enable essential track maintenance. For beach driving, please access the Worimi Conservation Lands via the Gan Gan 4WD beach access at Anna Bay or the Fern Bay 4WD beach access at Fern Bay. Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel and/or signage. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Samurai Beach in Tomaree National Park is closed to vehicles from Sunday 2 June to Thursday 20 June, due to flooding of the access track.

The following areas are closed:

  • Samurai Beach 4WD access track
  • Samurai Beach campground

The beach, including Tomaree Coastal Walk, remains open for pedestrian access, but check forecast conditions and warnings before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day.

Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife staff and signs. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. In life-threatening situations call emergency services on Triple Zero (000).

Safety alerts: Dangerous water conditions

Please do not swim or enter the water at Stockton Beach in the Worimi Conservation Lands. Tragically, people have drowned while swimming here.

The beach is remote, unpatrolled and has dangerous rip currents, unexpected large waves and sudden drop offs. Ocean conditions can change rapidly.

Mobile phone service is also limited here - you may not be able to call for help if you need it.

Closed parks: The Glen Road closed for Fire Access and Fire Trail Upgrades (FAFT)

The Glen Nature Reserve will be closed from Monday 29th May through to the 28th of June to allow contractors to deliver gravel to undertake Fire Access and Fire Trail Upgrades (FAFT) works. The closure has been put in place for the safety of both visitors and the contractors. The planned works and this closure may be weather dependent.

Cape Hawke Tower in Booti Booti National Park will be closed within a date range of 08:00am Monday 3rd June 2024 to 23:59pm Sunday 30th June 2024 for maintenance.

Cape Hawke Road will be partial closed on Monday 3rd June 2024 for the day. McBrides Beach Carpark will still remain open on this day. Do not enter at any time - fines will apply for non compliance.

Other planned events: Fox and Wild Dog Trapping Program 3 June to 16 June 2024

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a fox and wild dog control program (soft-jaw foot-hold trapping) in Wallaroo National Park and Tilligerry State Conservation Area from 3 June 2024 to 16 June 2024.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock. Works are conducted in collaboration with Local Land Services and neighbouring landowners.

Signs will be placed at main entrances to the affected reserves. Park users should keep to the middle of trails and not interfere with traps.

Neighbours and park users are reminded that domestic pets are never permitted in these NPWS reserves.

Contractors are undertaking maintenance and upgrade works on the visitor infrastructure on Tomaree Headland. Impacted Areas include:

Access to Tomaree Summit will remain open during this time. Visitors are advised to acknowledge work-zone signage and follow directions from staff and contractors on site.

Many of the beaches are remote, unpatrolled and have dangerous rip currents, unexpected large waves and sudden drop offs. Ocean conditions can change rapidly.

Closed areas: Mungo track detour due to flood damage

The boardwalk between Tamboi trail and Brambles Green campground is closed due to flood damage.

Walkers on the Mungo Track can take the detour at Mungo Brush. Please follow the walking track to the beach and then walk south for 4km. Take the slashed management trail which connects the beach to Mungo Brush Road to re-join the Mungo track.
