Other planned events: Aerial bitou bush treatment program - areas closed

Trails and beaches along Yuraygir coastal walk will be closed for approx. 4hrs at Station Creek Beach. This is so NSW National Parks can treat bitou bush infestations on the coastal dunes.

The areas being treated have dense bitou bush infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. This program is part of a systematic weed control approach.

The aerial treatment areas include:

  • Sand dunes at Station Creek Beach

NPWS staff will be at these areas to secure the treatment sites, and advise of the closure on the day. Treatment will be closed for approximately 4 hours.

Station Creek Campground will remain open.

The chemical treatment being used is metsulfuron methyl 600g/kg

Other planned events: 1080 baiting operation

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in Yuraygir National Park from 1 January to 31 July 2026.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. It's designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
