Safety alerts: Central Coast waterways impacted by recent flooding

Central Coast Council is strongly advising visitors to not swim or make contact with local waterways as it may be detrimental to your health.

Water quality has been impacted by the recent flooding, resulting in high bacterial levels and debris washing up on our beaches.

Closed areas: Old Wagstaffe trail - no access through private property

There is no public access to Old Wagstaffe trail through private property. Signs show where public access is not permitted.

The Bouddi Coastal Walk will be closed from Gerrin Point Lookout to the junction of Maitland Bay Walking Track. The closure will be in place from Monday 19th April 2021 until Friday 16th July 2021. This is to ensure the safety of visitors and contractors during track upgrade and construction works. No pedestrian access is possible to this section of walking track and no detour is in place during this closure.

21 April 2021 Closed areas Bouddi Coastal Walk Upgrade - Helicopter Operations Details

Applies from Wed 21 Apr 2021, 3.32pm to Wed 21 Apr 2021, 5.00pm. Last reviewed: Wed 14 Apr 2021, 4.05pm

A temporary closure will be in place on Wednesday 21st April 2021 while helicopter operations are underway as part of the Bouddi Coastal Walk track upgrade.

This closure will be in place for visitor safety between 7am and 4pm impacting the following areas:

  • Putty Beach Day use and Picnic Area will be closed
  • Putty Beach car park, at the end of Putty Beach Drive will be closed
  • No walking access on the Bouddi Coastal Walk between Putty Beach and Gerrin Point Lookout

Jabulani Challenge trail run is happening in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on Saturday 17 April 2021.

Races are run from 7am until 3.30pm, and will impact:

  • the Sphinx, Murrua and Warrimoo tracks 
  • Bobbin Head trail

Please be aware that the Bobbin Head area will be heavily utilised due to the trail run and other park closures within the area.

Flint and Steel track is closed for upgrade works from Wednesday 17 February to Monday 17 May 2021. Flint and Steel Beach and Flint and Steel Bay will be accessible by water only.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking a baiting program using meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

Ground baits will be laid from Tuesday 13th April - Tuesday 20th April 2021 in the northern section of Wyrrabalong National Park at Magenta. For your safety, please don't touch the baits. Warning signs will be displayed at baiting locations to notify park visitors.

1080 is lethal to dogs and cats. Park visitors and neighbours are reminded that domestic and working animals area not permitted in national parks at any time. It is recommended that you tie your dogs up during this time if they like to roam. Take your domestic dog or cat to the vet immediately if you suspect they have eaten a bait.

The Bobbin Head playground will be closed to all visitors from Tuesday 6 April to June 2021 for Stage 2 upgrade works. Construction will be happening Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm and some Saturdays, 7am to 5pm. Please ensure the safety of children in your care when visiting Bobbin Head.

Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is a popular location and will close at short notice if needed to ensure visitation levels do not exceed safe capacity required by COVID social distancing guidelines. 

Many COVID-19 restrictions have now been lifted from visitor precincts and facilities in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

We encourage you to:

  • Plan your visit outside of peak periods of 10am to 2pm
  • Be prepared to move on if it is no longer possible for you to maintain a COVID-safe distance from other visitors. It is your responsibility to leave the area. Do not wait to be instructed by NPWS or police.

From Monday 29 March 2021, the maximum group size for an outdoor gathering will be increased from 50 people to 200 people, including children. Group size restrictions in National Parks still apply. Groups are still expected to maintain social distancing and good hygiene.

The closure of toilets and other facilities will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Necessary site assessments will take place to consider the management of health and safety risk to visitors and staff, and available resourcing to maintain facilities. Access to sanitation products and running water cannot be guaranteed. We recommend bringing hand soap, hand wipes and toilet paper with you to maintain good hygiene as advised by the NSW Government.

Closed areas: Gibberagong boardwalk closed

Gibberagong boardwalk will be closed to all visitors from Tuesday 6 April to mid July 2021, while the boardwalk is replaced. During this time there will be no access to the Gibberagong track from Bobbin Head. 

Walkers along the Gibberagong track who have entered from Murrua Road, North Turramurra or Grosvenor Street, North Wahroonga will be turned around at Gibberagong boardwalk and will not be able to access Bobbin Head picnic areas. Signage and security fencing will be in placed around closed areas.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between Monday 1 February and Saturday 31 July 2021 in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in this reserve is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.
