Closed areas: Tallowa Dam Road Closed

The end of Tallowa Dam Road in Morton National Park is currently closed due to damage caused by recent rains. 

There is no vehicle access to the Tallowa Dam boat ramp. Paddlers must exit the lake at Beehive Point or Bendeela.

NPWS and WaterNSW are working to restore access as soon as possible. This alert will be removed once the road can be safely reopened.

Closed areas: Access to base of Belmore Falls prohibited

All access to the base of Belmore Falls is permanently closed as there is a risk of falling from the cliff edge and severe injury or death. This includes access from Hindmarsh and Belmore Falls lookouts and picnic areas.

Access is also closed to the top of Belmore Falls, including from the Belmore Falls Road causeway. 

There is limited mobile phone reception in this area. You may not be able to call for help if you need it and access for emergency services is difficult. 

The walk will remain permanently closed to the public to protect visitor safety.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026

The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.

1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. 

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Hoddles Track walking track in Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is closed due to dangerous track conditions and fallen trees. The track will remain closed to the public until works on the track can be completed. As soon as the track is declared safe and can be re-opened, the NPWS website will be updated. Other planned events: Notice of 1080 bait disposal pit

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.

The burial of used baits and products will occur from Thursday 17 July 2025 to Friday 16 January 2026. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

The Minnamurra Rainforest Centre will be closed and the Falls walk starting point will temporarily change on Monday 28th of July only. Visitors to Minnamurra Rainforest Centre will not be able to access the Rainforest Centre on that day, and will need to walk further up hill from the car park to access the Falls walk. This will mean that disabled access on the walk will not be able to be maintained for that day only. Signage will be in place on ground to direct visitors.

Closed areas: Areas closed for deer control program

Some areas in Royal National Park are closed to the public between sunset and sunrise from Monday to Thursday (excluding school holidays) from Monday 7 July 2025 to Friday 19 December 2025 to enable a deer control operation to be carried out.

The closed areas include:

  • All picnic areas in the Audley Precinct
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote.
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground and coastal areas between Garie Beach and Figure 8 Pools
  • Garrawarra Farm
  • Lady Carrington Drive
  • Bonnie Vale campground and Bonnie Vale picnic area.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas. If you have a campground booking you can still access campgrounds during these times.

NSW National Parks is doing a wild dog baiting program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits in Budawang National Park. The program runs from Wednesday 25th June to Friday 31st October 2025.

This baiting program is in accordance with the 1080 Wild Dog Baiting provisions in the Pesticide Control (1080 Liquid Concentrate and Bait Products) Order 2017.

We are taking precautions to minimise the risk to domestic pets and other non-target species. Please remember, it is an offence under the National Parks and Wildlife Act to allow domestic animals into national parks and nature reserves. It's also an offence to interfere with the wild dog control program.

There will be 1080 baiting notification signs at track heads in each area, with the start and finish dates of the baiting program.

Closed areas: Road Closure: Misty Mountain Road - Tree Down

Misty Mountain Road in Monga NP is closed due to a large tree across the road approximately 1km from the intersection with Cabbage Tree Fire Trail, following severe weather. 

Contractors will be required to assist with removal of the tree, and the area will then be assessed and re-opened when safe to do so.

Safety alerts: Gillards Beach access steps closed until further notice

The 5 southern beach access points and the day-use steps at Gillards Campground are currently closed due to severe erosion. Successive large seas have removed large amounts of sand from the beach resulting in these access points being unusable.

Park users staying in sites 1 to 28 should use the beach access steps to the north instead which is easily accessible via a short walk.

Beach access steps for sites 28 to 39 currently remain open.

Depot Beach campground and Depot Beach cabins are closed for maintenance until Sunday 31 August. The Depot Beach campground office will also be closed.

Closed areas: The Coast track - partial closure

Walking the full length of The Coast track from Otford to Bundeena or Bundeena to Otford is not currently possible due to several track closures along its length. These closures are necessary due to erosion, rockfall risk and ongoing track upgrade works.

Please note the following closures:

  • The Garie to Little Garie section of The Coast track is closed due to hazardous rockfalls and erosion
  • North Era campground is closed until further notice
  • Garie Road, Garie Beach and the Garie precinct is closed until further notice due to damage and subsidence of the road surface. Walkers approaching from the north (e.g. from Wattamolla or Bundeena) should exit the track via Curra Moors track. Walkers approaching from the south can Exit to Garawarra Farm via the Burgh Ridge Track.

Bushwalker access is available for the following sections of The Coast track:

  • South bound access - Bundeena to Curra Moors track via Wattamolla and return only. No access to Garie Beach.
  • North bound access - Otford to Thelma Ridge Via Burning Palms and Era and return only. No access to Garie Beach.

Cycle routes in Conjola National Park may currently be unsuitable for some cyclists due to recent roadworks. There are many sections of large ballast rock that have been used in boggy areas that may be difficult for cyclists to negotiate. It is hoped these will silt up over time and be more suitable for cyclists.

The use of trailers is prohibited on the following trails in Deua National Park:

  • Dampier Mountain trail
  • Oulla Creek trail
  • Minuma Range trail
  • Merricumbene trail
  • Mongamula trail
  • Dry Creek trail

It is an offence to tow trailers on these trails. The penalty for towing trailers on these trails is a $300 penalty infringement notice, or higher if the matter is taken to court.

Trailer access to Bendethera is available from Moruya via Little Sugarloaf Road and Bendethera trail. From Braidwood, this increases travel time by about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from 3rd March 2025 to 3rd September 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral animals wild dogs and/or foxes.

 

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock and will take place in:

 

Morton National Park (including: 12 Mile Road, Croobyar/Kingiman, Touga/Tolwong, Little Forest Plateau, Redground, Endrick and Sassafras)

Conjola National Park

Murramarang National Park

Parma Nature Reserve

Jerrawangala National Park

Colymea SCA

Bees Nest Nature Reserve

 

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands.

Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Access to The Big Hole walking track requires a river crossing of the Shoalhaven River.

During periods of rain, water levels of the river crossing may become too deep and fast flowing to pass, and extreme caution is advised. Visitors should not attempt crossing the river during major weather events or during prolonged periods of rain, when river levels can rise rapidly.

Safety alerts: Potential difficulties for cyclists navigating Beehive Walking Track

Cyclists undertaking the Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley cycling route are advised that there may be difficulties riding Beehive Walking Track, which provides one of two access routes to Beehive Campground. The original track has been closed to vehicles with many large logs impeding access. Alternative riding access to Beehive Campground is possible via Jack's Corner Road and Beehive Point Road.

 

This closure only affects cyclists wishing to access Beehive Point Campground. Walkers are not impacted by this closure and cyclists may choose to walk the trail with their bikes, lifting them over logs when required.

Cullendulla Beach is changing shape from the impacts of coastal erosion.

During high tide, walking access via the beach into Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve from the carpark on Myamba Parade may be restricted by the ocean.

While in the reserve, visitors should continue to monitor conditions and time their walk with a lower tide.

Due to extensive damage to infrastructure and trees during the 2019/2020 fires, the Penance Grove Boardwalk and Walking Track have been permanently closed.  Any reference to these areas on third party websites is old content and now incorrect.  Due to the extent of damage and complete loss of all infrastructure, there are currently no plans to reinstate the area.

 

The Corn Trail walking track, Dasyurus picnic area and Mongarlowe River picnic area all remain available.

Bingi Dreaming track crosses openings to several Intermittently Closed and Open Coastal Lakes and Lagoons (ICOLLS). Openings of these lakes and lagoons are often unpredictable and can be quite dramatic. Please be aware that although lakes are usually only open for short periods (weeks), they can be impassable when open.

The Coila Lake opening is at the southern end of Bingi Dreaming track. Please check if this lake is open before you set out. If the opening is impassable, you won't be able to access the village of Tuross to complete the walk.

Visitors should not attempt crossing the river in vehicles to access the campgrounds during major weather events or during prolonged periods of rain, when river levels can rise rapidly. It is never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. You should check the weather forecast and NPWS website for advice prior to setting out to this remote campground, and if severe weather is forecast, reconsider your trip.

  • Uloola track between Uloola campground and Audley. Uloola campground is also closed.
  • All bushland areas surrounding Robertsons roundabout between Audley and Kangaroo Creek.
  • Wattle Forest and Currawong picnic areas at Audley, west of Varneys Bridge.
  • All bushland areas around Artillery Hill bounded by The Hacking River, South West Arm and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. This includes Anice Falls track and The Meadows and Gundamaian fire trails.
  • All bushland areas surrounding Cabbage Tree Basin bounded by Maianbar Road, Bundeena Drive and The Basin track.
  • All areas east of Lady Wakehurst Drive, Sir Bertram Stevens Drive and Bundeena Drive.
  • Mount Bass and Winifred Falls trails
  • Warumbul Road and Warumbul picnic area.

The Basin walking track between Maianbar and Bonnie Vale will remain open to local residents however short delays may be encountered.

Please follow directions of NPWS staff who will be on the track during the program. Bushland areas immediately adjoining the track are closed.
