A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Areas closed for aerial pest control operation

An aerial pest control operation will take place in Mount Kaputar National Park from Monday 27 March until Sunday 2 April 2023.

During operations, some areas of the park will be closed and clearly signposted with closure notices and/or traffic control. The closures will impact some walking tracks and visitor access areas, typically for a 2-hour period.

The following areas will remain open for the duration of the operation:

  • Dawsons Spring campground, cabins and nature trail
  • Doug Sky lookout
  • Mount Kaputar summit lookout and walking track
  • The Governor/Corrunbral Borawah lookout and walking track
  • Sawn Rocks lookout and walking track
  • West Kaputar lookout 

This pest control program will target feral goats and aims to reduce the significant impact they have on heritage sites and native plants and animals, including threatened species. Other pest animals including pigs, cats, foxes and wild dogs, will be targeted if observed during the operation.

Closed areas: CLOSED: Bark Hut campground and Euglah Rock walking track

Bark Hut campground will be closed from Tuesday 14 March until Tuesday 28 March 2023. Plant equipment will be used throughout the campground to complete walking track upgrades. During this time, significant traffic and noise disturbance will be present.

The following areas will be impacted by this closure:

  • Bark Hut camp sites, picnic areas, barbecues and amenities
  • Euglah Rock lookout and walking track

As an alternative, visitors are encouraged to camp at Dawsons Spring campground.

This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.
