Closed parks: Area Closed for Aerial Shooting Pest Control Operation

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct an aerial pest animal control operation (aerial shooting) from 5th June to 9th June 2023 in:

  • Minimbah Nature Reserve
  • Bandicoot Island Nature Reserve
  • Regatta Island Nature Reserve
  • Wallis Island Nature Reserve
  • Yahoo Island Nature Reserve

The operation will also include some adjoining NSW Crown Land and Mid Coast Council managed land where consent has been provided.

The program will primarily target feral deer as part of a state-wide conservation program and to address biosecurity obligations. The program aims to reduce the significant impact feral deer have on threatened species and to reduce the economic and public safety impacts on neighbouring properties and members of the public.

The operational area will be CLOSED to all visitors when aerial shooting is underway.

Warning closure signs will be placed at relevant visitor entry points. Please do not enter closed areas during this time.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, please contact the NPWS local office on (02) 6591 0300.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 aerial baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Barakee National Park, Barrakee State Conservation Area, Biriwal Bulga National Park, Bugan Nature Reserve, GhinDoo-Ee National Park, Goonook Nature Reserve, Talawahl Nature Reserve, Talawahl State Conservation Area, Tapin Tops National Park and Wallamba Nature Reserve from 6th May 2023 to 14th May 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
