Closed areas: Crackneck lookout car park closed

Crackneck lookout car park is closed to vehicles until further notice. This closure includes the use of picnic tables.

The closure is to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff.

Access to the Coast walking track is still permitted while visitors follow social distancing measures.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. Please check our COVID-19 update for more information.

Patrols in the area will continue, and further closures may be required.

Closed areas: Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park - Apple Tree Bay boat ramp, visitor areas and facilities closed

Many high visitation areas and facilities within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park are closed until further notice to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff. The closed areas include:

  • Apple Tree boat ramp will be closed over Easter, from Friday 10 April to Monday 13 April 2020
  • Bobbin Head Information Centre
  • All picnic shelters and barbecue facilities (including picnic tables)
  • All playgrounds
  • Brooklyn Dam campsites 
  • Barrenjoey Headland and Barrenjoey Lighthouse
  • The Basin track, the Basin campground and picnic area

Berowra track remains closed between Apple Tree Bay and the intersection of Mount Ku-ring-gai track until further notice, while staff fix extensive storm damage.

The closure of toilets and other facilities will be decided on a case-by-case basis, with necessary site assessments considering the management of health and safety risk to visitors and staff, as well as available resourcing to maintain facilities. Access to sanitation products and running water cannot be guaranteed. We recommend bringing hand soap, hand wipes and toilet paper with you to maintain good hygiene as advised by the NSW Government.

If you wish to exercise in a national park, you should choose a park close to your home. Visitors are reminded that non-essential travel is currently not permitted. If your planned visit is for a purpose other than exercise, you should reconsider your plans as you may be in breach of the current public health orders. If you arrive at a national park or other public space and it is too crowded to practice social distancing, it is your responsibility to leave the area. Do not wait to be instructed by NPWS or police.

All access roads, car parks and picnic areas in Munmorah State Conservation Area are temporarily closed to vehicles until further notice.

This includes vehicle (including motor bike) access to Birdie and Frazer beaches, Freemans and Frazer camping areas, Snapper Point, Wybung Head and all picnic areas in the reserve.

All amenities blocks and picnic facilities within day use areas will also be unavailable.

Safety alerts: Red Hill Road - 4WD only

Red Hill Road in Jilliby State Conservation Area is only accessible by 4WD vehicles between Red Hill Quarry in the north, and the intersection of Prestons Ridge Road in the south.

Yambo Forest Road in Jilliby State Conservation Area is not suitable for 2WD vehicles due to rain and potential vehicle damage. 4WD access is possible from Dooralong Road through to the Lemon Tree Road intersection. Middle Ridge Road is closed from the intersection of Null Road. There is no vehicle or pedestrian access to Ravensdale Road. Maculata fire trail west from Jilliby Road linking to Daniels Point fire trail and Watagan Forest Road are closed due to 4WD damaged roads and trails. There is no through road access across Little Jilliby Jilliby Creek in either direction.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February 2020 and 31 July 2020. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Closed areas: Morisset picnic area

The Morisset section of Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is closed from Thursday 20 December 2019. There is now no public access to the following areas:

  • The  Morisset Hospital site
  • Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area foreshore
  • Morisset picnic area.

Alternative picnic areas are located in the Lake Macquarie Council area in and around the Morisset and Bonnells Bay foreshores. There is no public access to view the kangaroos that frequent the hospital site. All roads in Jilliby State Conservation Area are unsealed, and not accessible by 2WD vehicles.  4WD vehicles should be used at all times.
