Safety alerts: Road closure and safety advice - 4WD only and horse float restrictions
Spirabo Forest Way is open from the north-western end of Washpool National Park (from Scrub Road at Tenterfield), and is restricted to 4WD only. If entering the Four Bull Hut area with a horse float then entry and exit should be from this direction.
Access south of Four Bull Hut is unsuitable for horse floats, and requires 4WD with high ground clearance.
Access to Four Bull Hut via the following routes is also by 4WD only, in vehicles with high ground clearance:
- Mount Spirabo Road from the New England Highway at Bolivia
- Ten Mile Road in the south from Deepwater, on Spirabo Forest Way through Capoompeta National Park
The above accesses roads remain unsuitable for towing of horse floats. These roads are unsuitable for low clearance 4WDs or AWD vehicles.

Butterleaf Road, the access road into Butterleaf NP through the adjoining State Forest, is in very poor condition, and access is restricted to 4WD only. Please exercise caution and drive to conditions.

Closed areas: Bald Rock walk to the base of Bald Rock closed
Bald Rock Summit walking track will be closed to the base of Bald Rock from 8am Monday 9 January 2023. This closure is to support the installation of a new pedestrian bridge as part of upgrade works along the track to make the walk more accessible to all visitors. This closure includes the walking route directly up and down the face of Bald Rock.
Bungoona walk to the summit will remain open during this time, which is a more gradual climb around the side of Bald Rock to the summit.

Carpet Snake and Duck Creek fire trails are currently closed due to damage from flooding.
NPWS will reopen the trails as soon as it is safe to do so.

Safety alerts: Ugly Corner Falls track damage
Ugly Corner Falls walking track is damaged due to flooding. Surfaces may be uneven due to erosion.
Please follow all signage and don't enter areas that are fenced off. Due to recent rainfall creek levels can change rapidly. It is unsafe to swim or attempt to cross rivers that are flooded.

If you plan to stay at the campground in Butterleaf National Park you will need to fill in a Trip Intention Form before you leave home.
All NPWS campgrounds now require you to make an online booking before you stay, or to complete a Trip Intention Form for those that are remote and do not have a dedicated webpage, like the campground in Butterleaf National Park.
