There is a planned Hazard Reduction burn in this park from 03/06/2023. The fire is called Cooks South LMZ. Refer to the Rural Fire Service for latest information. Closed areas: Wonga walk partial closure from 7th June 2023 until June 2024

A section of the Wonga walk will be closed between the Glade and Crystal Shower Falls from 7th June 2023 until June 2024. The closure is to allow track upgrades to improve visitor safety.

Crystal Shower Falls and Tristania Falls remain open via the lower Wonga walk. This is a 7.4km return walk from the Rainforest Centre, or a 9km return walk from the Glade.

Access to Platypus Flat and Cod Hole Campgrounds via Morora Road (coming from Ulong) will be temporarily blocked in June/July due to the planned replacement of Brooklana Bridge on Morora Road. An alternate route from Ulong during this time, is via Brooklana Road, then Briggsvale Road and Moses Rock Road. More accurate dates will be noted, once known.

Closed areas: Korogoro Circuit Walking Track closure

Korogoro Circuit Track will be closed for upgrade and maintenance works during this period - weather dependant.  Works include the replacement of 4 footbridges, track surface erosion repairs, and installation of stepping stones in wet soak areas.  A helicopter will be used for some of the works program to allow for transport of heavy materials directly into the works locations.  Public access will be prohibited during this time to protect visitor safety and ensure safe contractor operations.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program in Deervale Nature Reserve using manufactured or meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs. The program will be conducted between 15 May to 5 June 2023.

The baiting area will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Bitou bush will be sprayed by helicopter with herbicide (metsulfuron-methyl 600) between 29 May and 9 June 2023 in the NPWS Hastings-Macleay Area. Some beaches, headlands, roads and walking tracks in Arakoon National Park will be temporarily closed during the helicopter operation for public safety.

The program is expected to take 4-5 days to complete with suitable weather conditions. Temporary closures will occur on the day of spraying and NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter operation. Aerial baiting is scheduled for 14/05/2023 to 28/05/2023

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. The Smoky Cape Lighthouse Picnic Area toilet block will be closed during this time for internal refurbishment works and upgrade of the water supply system.  The existing toilet facilities are in poor condition and the water tanks are no longer functioning and will be replaced.  Replacement temporary toilets will be in place on site during the works program.

Suttons road is closed to vehicle traffic following the second major pavement collapse in an area of highly dispersible soils. Alternate access is via Granite Pit or McMullens roads.

The Never Never picnic area shelter is closed until further notice, due to damage sustained during extended wet weather. The closure will remain in place until the shelter is assessed by an engineer.

Closed areas: Moonee Creek south bridge (Caravan park to Green Bluff access) closed

Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge is closed until further notice, due to damage from coastal erosion.

The bridge crossing provides access:

  • To Reflections Holiday Park
  • From Moonee south to Coffs Coast Regional Park, Green Bluff and Sapphire North.

Reflections Holiday Parks have closed the bridge until further notice, due to an engineering assessment deeming the bridge unsafe for pedestrians.

If you are planning to do the Solitary Islands coastal walk please reroute:

  • West along Moonee Beach Road to the south-west corner of the shopping centre
  • South along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Highway
  • South onto southern end of North Solitary Drive
  • East onto North Sapphire Road to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe

Green Bluff is alternatively accessible from the south via Rutile trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire.

The beach lookout platform at the southern Diggers Beach carpark is closed due to coastal erosion damage.

 

Beach access remains at this location. Similar coastal/surfbreak viewlines are accessible from the adjacent path and from the beach.

 

An engineering assessment has deemed the structure unsafe for public access due to undercutting.

 

City of Coffs Harbour asset manage this structure (in joint park management with NPWS) - planning is currently underway to determine the next actions for this damaged structure.

Closed areas: Area permanently closed - Mermaid Pools

Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.

Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.

Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.

The bridge on Slees road on the boundary of Viewmont State Forest and Bollanolla Nature Reserve has been severely impacted by the 2022 floods and is not currently trafficable.

It is not safe to cross and road closure signs have been put in place. Replacement has been scheduled.

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.
