Other planned events: Aerial Pest Management Program

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial shooting program targeting vertebrate pest animals such as wild goats, feral deer and feral pigs.

The program is scheduled between 26 May & 7 June 2026.

Exact dates for each park are not fixed to allow for flexibility if circumstances such as weather impact the operation. Aerial shooting is planned to occur in the following reserves:

Yathong Nature Reserve, Nombinnie Nature Reserve & Nombinnie State Conservation Area, Round Hill Nature Reserve

Information regarding park closures can be found on the NPWS website: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/alerts-list

NPWS takes a strategic and integrated approach to pest management on lands we manage. We aim to minimise the adverse impacts of pests on Biosecurity, biodiversity, cultural values, neighbours and the community. Only qualified and appropriately trained personnel will participate in this program.

Aerial shooting supplements other control measures which can include trapping, ground shooting and baiting. If you have any questions regarding the aerial shooting program, please call your local NPWS Central West Area office at Dubbo on (02) 6841 7100, or Bathurst on (02) 6332 7640.

Other planned events: Notice of use of Hoggone meSN Feral Pig Bait from 11 May 2026

Due to a large number of feral pigs causing impacts the Reserve, and to meet NPWS's General Biosecurity Duty, (GBD), under the Biosecurity Act, NPWS will be using Hoggone to control feral pigs.

NPWS pesticides trained staff will be using a new control product to lessen the impacts caused by feral pigs in Mount Grenfell Historic Site, National Park & State Conservation Area.

HOGGONE will be used on these reserves, and the product is a peanut based product with Sodium nitrite as the poison.

This product is very effective on controlling feral pigs and when used carefully has few off-target impacts.

NPWS staff will be monitoring the success of the program, and this program may last a few weeks.
