Whipsering Oaks Campground at Koonaburra National Park is currently closed due to wet conditions.

Access to the National Park and campground is restricted by road closures put in place by the Cobar Shire Council for The Wool Track between Belarabon Road and Ivanhoe.

Cobar Shire Council has issue a road closure for The Wool Track between Belarabon Road and Ivanhoe due to significant rainfall and water over the road.

Access to Koonaburra National Park may be restricted due to adverse weather and these road closures. Access to Whispering Oaks Campground may also be affected.

Safety alerts: Notice of 1080 aerial baiting program

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) personnel will be conducting an aerial baiting program for the control of Wild Dogs on Paroo-Darling National Park and Paroo- Darling State Conservation Area.

The program is scheduled between 26/4/2025 and 7/5/2025

Exact dates within the above range are not fixed to allow for flexibility if circumstances such as weather impacting the operation.

Paroo-Darling National Park and Paroo- Darling State Conservation Area may be closed during baiting operations. Information regarding park closures can be found on the NPWS website: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/alerts-list

The program will use fresh meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison. This program is compliant with the Pesticide Control (1080 Bait Products) Order 2020. Signs will be erected to notify the public of the baiting program.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS-managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. If accidental poisoning occurs seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Aerial baiting complements other control measures which can include trapping, ground shooting and ground baiting.

NPWS takes a strategic and integrated approach to pest management on lands we manage. We aim to minimise the adverse impacts of pests on biodiversity, cultural values, neighbours and the community. Only qualified and appropriately trained personnel will participate in this program.

Baits may be deployed from the ground if aerial baiting is suspended due to unforeseen circumstances. This will occur within the same date range.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 aerial baiting of foxes in Yathong Nature Reserve, Round Hill Nature Reserve, Nombinnie Nature Reserve and State Conservation Area. This baiting program will occur between Monday 28 April and Saturday 3 May 2025 on consecutive days. It will reduce the impacts of pest animals on wildlife and threatened species in the park and neighbouring stock.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch baits if found. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. Lachlan Valley National Park, Hunthawag Precinct will be closed for this operation. Fire bans: Park fire ban for Paroo-Darling National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in Paroo-Darling National Park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

• They're under direct control of an adult
• The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
• There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Other incidents: Visitation restrictions

There are a number of restrictions on visitation and access by the general public to Yathong, Nombinnie and Round Hill Nature Reserves and Nombinnie State Conservation Area. 

• These reserves are not available for overnight camping or hiking. Visitation is restricted to day visits only.
• Vehicle access is restricted to the public roads passing through or adjoining the reserves. Management trails are closed to vehicles. However you are welcome to walk on the trails.
• Bird watchers are welcome to walk into the reserves and along management trails. However take care to make sure you can navigate back to your car - it is easy to get disorientated in mallee country.
• Trips to Round Hill Nature Reserve by bird watching clubs can be done by prior arrangement.
• There are a number of scientific research programs happening in the reserves and visitors should not disturb any field equipment if they come across it.
• The reserves are closed periodically to allow management programs to be undertaken. Please check the website for closures prior to visits.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a ground baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) that contain 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will be ongoing between 17 March 2025 and 17 September 2025 along management trails in Tollingo Nature Reserve and Woggoon Nature Reserve.

Readily identifiable 1080 poison signs have been positioned at trail entry points or trail junctions throughout the reserve.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs).
