Other planned events: Aerial spraying of bitou bush

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting an aerial herbicide spraying operation between Monday 11 May 2020 and Sunday 28 June 2020. For public safety, the areas being treated will be closed temporarily on the day they are sprayed. Advice on specific areas to be temporarily closed will be provided a week before spraying.

This spraying program is being carried out to control bitou bush on headlands and beaches in:

  • Booti Booti National Park
  • Saltwater National Park
  • Tomaree National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Khappinghat Nature Reserve
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve (completed)
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve (completed)
  • Some adjoining Crown Lands

The program is expected to take 8 to 10 days to complete, dependant on weather conditions.

Spraying is planned in the following areas:

  • Friday 29 May to Sunday 31 May 2020 inclusive - no aerial spraying will be undertaken.
  • Monday 1 June 2020 to Wednesday 3 June 2020 inclusive - no aerial spraying is planned at this stage due to forecast unsuitable weather conditions.
  • Thursday 4 and Friday 5 June - Myall Lakes National Park including Yellow Rock, Sugarloaf Point, Lighthouse Beach, Treachery Headland, Treachery Beach and Yagon Headland, Yagon Beach, Big Gibber Headland and Mungo Beach. 
  • Saturday 6 June to Monday 8 June inclusive - no aerial spraying will be undertaken.

 

The herbicide used is Metsulfuron methyl 600WG. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please ensure you follow the advice on all warning signs and the directions given by NPWS staff.

Closed areas: Violet Hill Road closed

Violet Hill and Bungarie Bay are closed this week due to roadworks in the area. Therefore, there is no access to the boat ramp at Violet Hill campground.

All campgrounds and associated picnic areas in this park are closed until 1 June 2020. If you would like to stay at a campground after 1 June you’ll need to revisit this webpage and make a booking. Park info

  • in Myall Lakes National Park in the North Coast region
  • Myall Lakes National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day.

    The park has coin/card operated pay and display machines at Mungo Brush campground. NPWS visitor service officers regularly visit camping areas to collect fees from campers and sell annual passes. Day passes and annual passes also available from the Great Lakes Area Office, Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens Visitor Information Centres, and other local outlets.

    Bombah Point ferry fees may also apply (cash payment only).
