Please be aware there will be a large increase of visitors in the park on Saturday 15 October 2022 due to a Bald Rock 50th anniversary event. The following areas will be particularly affected:

  • Bald Rock Summit walking tracks
  • Bald Rock campground and picnic area

To ensure that you are not impacted upon during your visit, we encourage you to:

  • Plan your visit outside the peak periods of 8am to 6pm.
  • Explore lesser-known spots.
  • Check this alert before leaving home and again before arriving at the park.
  • Complete campground bookings online before your arrival.

Closed parks: Basket Swamp National Park closed due to access road damage

Basket Swamp National Park is closed until further notice due to weather-damaged access roads in the adjoining state forest. Access into the park will be restored by December 2022, pending weather conditions.

Yabbra National Park is closed until further notice. The closure is due to damage from recent weather events, and roadworks on Joes Box, South Yabbra, Yabbra Plains and Pocupar Roads.

Safety alerts: Ugly Corner Falls track damage

Ugly Corner Falls walking track is damaged due to flooding. Surfaces may be uneven due to erosion.

Please follow all signage and don't enter areas that are fenced off. Due to recent rainfall creek levels can change rapidly. It is unsafe to swim or attempt to cross rivers that are flooded.

Aerial baiting is scheduled for Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September 2022.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Road closure and safety advice - 4WD only and horse float restrictions

Spirabo Forest Way is open from the north-western end of Washpool National Park (from Scrub Road at Tenterfield), and is restricted to 4WD only. If entering the Four Bull Hut area with a horse float then entry and exit should be from this direction.

Access south of Four Bull Hut is unsuitable for horse floats, and requires 4WD with high ground clearance.

Access to Four Bull Hut via the following routes is also by 4WD only, in vehicles with high ground clearance:

  • Mount Spirabo Road from the New England Highway at Bolivia
  • Ten Mile Road in the south from Deepwater, on Spirabo Forest Way through Capoompeta National Park

The above accesses roads remain unsuitable for towing of horse floats. These roads are unsuitable for low clearance 4WDs or AWD vehicles.

The closure of the following parks and reserves has been extended until Monday 29 August 2022 due to hazardous conditions and damage from flooding and storm events:

Bandahngan Aboriginal Area is closed until December 2022 for a major upgrade of facilities and safety work.

A cultural heritage assessment and review of facilities for the reserve is currently underway.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
