Closed areas: Walking tracks closed for upgrades

Various sections along the walking tracks in Malabar Headland National Park will close during May to September 2021 for upgrades:

  • Access from the south is open to Boora Point only
  • Access from the north is open to Magic Point only

Additional information will be posted as the work progresses.

Please note the entire Boora Point walking track (eastern sections of the national park) is closed when the ANZAC Rifle Range is in use.

Internal roads and parking lots will be intermittently closed for maintenance from Wednesday 16 June to Tuesday 29 June 2021.

The affected areas include:

  • Cottonwood Glen picnic area
  • Commandment Rock picnic area
  • Thistlethwaytes carpark
  • Haynes Flat picnic area
  • Carter Creek picnic area

Max Allen Road and Ambulance Room Road will also be impacted.

Closed areas: Area closures for rifle range operations

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on a number of days for ANZAC Rifle Range operations. The dates include:

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am
  • Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month
  • Sunday 27 June 2021
  • Monday 5 July to Friday 9 July 2021

These closures may occur with little or no notice. 

Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

  • Fairfax lookouts

Open areas include:

  • The track between Shelly Beach and Bluefish Drive
  • North Head Scenic Drive
  • Fairfax Walk
  • Collins Flat Beach
  • Collins Beach Road

Closed areas: Bedlam Bay wharf, boat ramp and viewing platform closures

Some areas in Parramatta Regional Park are closed for essential repairs. The affected areas are:

  • The Bedlam Bay wharf and adjacent pedestrian boat ramp in Parramatta River Regional Park, will be closed from Monday 19 April until late June 2021.
  • The Bedlam Bay viewing platform, at the eastern end of the oval foreshore, will be closed from Friday 26 May until late June 2021.

Alternative boating facilities are available at:

  • Banjo Patterson wharf, Punt Road, Gladesville. 
  • Kissing Point Park boat ramp and jetty, Waterview Street, Putney.

Closed areas: Fort Denison closed

Fort Denison is closed from Tuesday 2 November 2020 to Sunday 30 January 2022.

The 1940s timber wharf has deteriorated and is unsafe to access. Installation of a new pontoon and wharf upgrades will take place from Monday 10 May 2021 to January 2022. Fort Denison remains closed to visitors until these works have been complete.

Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Standard work hours during the construction phase will be between:

  • 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am and 1pm on Saturday

Night time works will be undertaken between Sunday 16 May to Saturday 31 July during the following times:

  • Sunday to Friday night: 8pm to 5am
  • Saturday night and public holidays: No work

Noise monitoring stations will be set up in Kirribilli and Cremorne to check any over-water noise so that it does not exceed legal levels, however this is not expected to be high.

Safety alerts: Protect your picnic - native birds may steal your food

Birds at Nielsen Park are attempting to steal food from visitors' picnics and tables due to unauthorised feeding of local native birds. To try and reduce this unwanted behaviour, NPWS is asking visitors to not actively feed any wildlife and to please bring suitable methods to cover your food. These include storage containers with sealed lids or an umbrella to cover your picnic to reduce food visibility and access.

Please note, it is illegal to feed wildlife in a national park. NPWS officers are monitoring the area and fines apply if visitors are seen actively feeding birds and promoting this unwanted behaviour.

Lane Cove Depot Road in Lane Cove National Park will be closed from Monday 16 April 2020 until further notice while the road is being upgraded to improve safety for road users. During this time vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians are not permitted to use the road.

Closed areas: Section of Flat Rock track closed

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

  • Sydney Harbour National Park is open sunrise to sunset but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    Bradleys Head carpark: $8 per vehicle per day. North Head carpark: $5 per vehicle per day. There are pay and display machines that accept cards and coins - no change given. Chowder Bay Road parking: Monday-Friday: $3 per hour, to a maximum of $16 per day. Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: $4 per hour, to a maximum of $20 per day. If you hold an NPWS All Parks or Multi Parks Pass, you can park free for up to four hours per day - additional time can be purchased. Car parks operated by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust or Mosman Council are not covered by your pass. Please check signs carefully.

    Other fees:

    Landing fees or tour fees apply to visit Sydney Harbour islands. All public visitors to Shark, Clark or Rodd Island, need to pay a $7 per person landing fee. To arrange, please contact 1300 072 757 (13000 PARKS). Annual NSW Parks Passes do not cover landing fees.
