Closed areas: Update - Area closed for feral animal control - Pilot Wilderness, Kosciuszko National Park
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will conduct aerial shooting operations in the Pilot Wilderness Area between Monday 20th and Thursday 30th November (excluding weekends). This program will target deer, pigs, foxes, goats, cats and wild dogs. Other species will not be targeted.
Closure notices are placed at relevant access points into Kosciuszko National Park. Penalties apply for non-compliance.
NPWS’s first priority is the safety of visitors. The Australian Alps Walking Track - Dead Horse Gap to Cowombat Flat - along sections of Cascades, Pilot Creek, Snow Gums and Cowombat Trail will remain open during the program. The Ingeegoodbee and Nine Mile sections of the Pilot Wilderness mountain bike ride (Alpine Way to Barry Way) will be closed Monday to Friday for the duration of this operation.
Trail users must stay on the trail. Occasionally, trail users may experience short waits while this operation is conducted. This will provide an extra layer of safety precautions. Please obey all directions from NPWS staff.
We appreciate your patience while this important work is carried out. Please contact NPWS at npws.southernrangesbranch@environment.nsw.gov.au or at 13000 PARKS (1300 072 757) with any queries related to the park closures.
