Broadwater Beach Road within Broadwater National Park will be closed for maintenance from Tuesday 28 May until Sunday 2 June 2024. There will be no public access to Broadwater Beach picnic area during this time.

Closed areas: Yuraygir National Park Bitou Control Program - Aerial Spray

Bitou bush will be sprayed by helicopter with the herbicide Metsun (metsulfuron-methyl 600) between Tuesday 11th June 2024 and Friday 21 June 2024 in Yuraygir National Park. Some national park beaches and headlands will be temporarily closed during the helicopter operation for public safety. The Yuraygir Coastal Walk will also be closed.

The areas treated have dense or large bitou bush infestations that are not accessible using other treatment methods. This program is part of a systematic weed control program throughout Yuraygir National Park.

Areas treated will include:

  • Freshwater and Station Creek Beaches
  • Wilsons Headland to Wooli Beach
  • Minnie Water Back Beach
  • Illaroo Beach (south of Sandon Village)
  • Sandon Beach (south of Brooms Head)
  • Grey Cliff to Brooms Head Beach
  • Lake Arragan to One Man Bluff

Signage will be in place and NPWS staff will advise of the closure and secure the treatment sites on the day. The program is weather dependent and takes only one (1) day to complete in favourable weather conditions. Each site will be closed for a period of up to 3 hours.

Closed areas: Cape Byron walking track closed between Lighthouse and Wategos beach

The section of the Cape Byron walking track between Wategos Beach (east) and the Cape Byron Historic Lighthouse will be closed for maintenance work until August 2024.

Vehicle access around the Cape Byron State Conservation Reserve will not be affected. Vehicles can access the Pass and Palm Valley picnic area, Wategos Beach, and the Cape Byron Historic Lighthouse.

Visitors can safely walk to the Cape Byron Historic Lighthouse via:

  • Lee Lane to the Tallow Ridge Walking Track, or
  • Lighthouse Road down-road

Visitors may choose to along Clarkes Beach to access the Pass and the Palm Valley picnic area. The section of the walking track between the Palm Valley picnic area and Wategos Beach (west) remains open.

Everlasting Swamp National Park is closed from 12:00 Thursday, 16th May 2024 due to adverse weather conditions. Many of the roads and trails are impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive Closure - 14 May to 31 June 2024

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed from 14 May to 31 June 2024 for land slip repairs. Additional closures will apply for subsequent surface repair works with specific dates to be provided closer to commencement of works.

  • Peacock Creek campground will remain open and can be accessed from the west via Peacock Creek Road or from the east via Sextonville Road
  • Cambridge Plateau picnic area and related walking tracks will remain closed for the duration of road works
  • There will be no access to the cabin north of Cambridge Plateau picnic area during most of the closure period. Guests can contact the cabin owner regarding their stay and access requirements.

NPWS is planning to undertake works on the western end of rockwall area at Woody Head from Monday 03 June to Monday 01 July 2024, Monday to Friday between 7am & 5pm only. (No works will occur on Monday 10 June 2024). There will be no pedestrian access to Woody Bay Beach and the western rockwall as it will be closed to the public for duration of these works. All other areas in Woody Head will be remain open for use. There will be traffic control on the Woody Head road during these time.  Drive safely, slowly and follow all directions of NPWS staff, roadwork and closure area signs. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Thursday 9th, May 2024 to Wednesday 9th, October 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program will take place in Everlasting Swamp National Park and State Conservation Area.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Nightcap Range Road will be closed for major landslip repairs from 6th May 2024 until 13th July 2024. During this time, the road will be closed in both directions between Rummery Road and Nightcap Ridge.

 

Access to Rummery Park Campground and Minyon Falls will be via Minyon Falls Road only.

Peacock Creek Campground is accessible by 4WD or AWD only until further notice.

Many local roads are still impacted by large pot holes and similar damage from recent flooding, all visitors should drive with care and to conditions.

- Iron Pot Creek Road is suitable for 4WD or AWD only due to the current condition of the crossing at Toonumbar Dam

- Sextonville Road and Peacock Creek Road (western end) are only suitble for 4WD due to deep creek crossing and severe road surface damage

- The north of Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive is currently closed due to hazardous conditions

Due to storm damage, Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed between Peacock Creek Road and Mount Babyl until 31 July 2024. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The road will remain open between Cambridge Plateau picnic area and the Bruxner Highway. This section of road is not suitable for 2WD vehicles in wet weather and is not suitable for heavy vehicles until slip repairs in May 2024.

  • Peacock Creek campground will remain open and can be accessed via Peacock Creek Road, Sextonville Road or Iron Pot Creek Road
  • Cambridge Plateau picnic area and Culmarran Valley Track and Cambridge loop walk will remain open and accessible from the south via the Bruxner Highway
  • Guests wish to access the cabin north of Cambridge Plateau picnic area can do so from the south via the Bruxner Highway
