Closed parks: Most of Guy Fawkes River National Park closed - bushfire damage

Most of Guy Fawkes River National Park is closed due to bushfire damage. Upper Ebor Falls is open, so visitors can enjoy the falls, however the Lower Ebor Falls visitor area and escarpment walk from the Upper Ebor Falls to Lower remains closed. This park is fire-affected and facilities within Ebor Falls picnic area have also been affected. 

The following areas are closed:

  • Chaelundi campground
  • Dalmorton campground
  • Escarpment walk
  • Misty Creek lookout
  • Lower Ebor Falls day use area
  • Escarpment walk from Upper Ebor Falls to Lower Ebor Falls
  • Bicentennial National Trail through the entire park
  • Guy Fawkes River Wilderness areas

Please do not enter closed areas as it is unsafe to do so. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Check this website for updates on closures.

Other planned events: Bridge repair works - Breinerville precinct

Repair works are underway to replace 2 bridges in the Breinerville precinct that were damaged in the 2019/2020 bushfires.

If you plan to take New England wilderness walk, please watch out for heavy machinery and observe road signage. Both sites are easily diverted by walking down the creek below the bridges. For further information contact NPWS Coffs Coast area office on 02 6652 0900.

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog and fox pest control program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic ground baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operations will involve the use of fresh meat containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Monday 26 April 2021 to Wednesday 30 June 2021 in the following parks:

  • Bald Rock NP
  • Barool NP
  • Basket Swamp NP
  • Bluff River NR
  • Bolivia Hill NR
  • Butterleaf NP
  • Capoompeta NP
  • Cataract NP
  • Cathedral Rock NP
  • Guy Fawkes River NP
  • Kings Plains NP
  • Mann River NR
  • Maryland NP
  • Nullamanna NP
  • Severn River NR
  • Torrington SCA
  • Washpool NP

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state-focused biosecurity issues.

All baiting locations will be signposted.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Some walking tracks in Cathedral Rock National Park are closed due to bushfire damage:

  • Barokee to Native Dog Creek walk
  • Warrigal walking track
  • Woolpack Rocks walk

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk - Not suitable during rain or high river levels

The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain.  River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.

Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.
