Closed areas: Nellies Glen closed due to extreme weather and flooding

Nellies Glen and Nellies Glen picnic area are closed until 4 October 2022 due to severe weather and flooding.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Wednesday 21 September 2022 to Monday 20 March 2023 to reduce the impacts on threatened species.

The operation will target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Baits have been placed on NPWS estate, private property and Crown road reserves with permissions.

There are 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Some baits may be buried.

1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to pets (including domestic dogs and cats) and working dogs. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance. Domestic pets, including dogs and cats, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. Restrain working and assistance dogs to ensure they don’t enter the baiting areas.

Safety alerts: Night-time fox control along beaches

Please be aware night shooting of foxes may occur in the following beaches in the coming months to protect nesting shorebirds:

Fox control is undertaken by qualified shooters in accordance to shot plans between August and March to protect endangered nesting shorebirds.

Access tracks and beach entrances will be closed and signposted prior to shooting operations. Please look out for signage stating the beach is closed if accessing these beaches after dark.

Illawarra lookout within Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is closed until  further notice due to damage. NPWS is in the process of repairing the lookout and the lookout is expected to re-open later in 2022.

Notice of 1080 ongoing program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in using meat and manufactured baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate)  poison for the control of foxes. The program will be continuous and on-going between Monday 18th July and 16th December 2022.

All baiting locations will be  identifiable by signs.

Domestic pests are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs) . Pets nd working dogs must be restrained or muzzled  in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning  seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other incidents: Minnamurra Rainforest may close at short notice

Minnamurra Rainforest is a popular location and will close at short notice if needed to ensure visitation levels do not exceed safe capacity or due to the car park reaching capacity.  We encourage you to plan your visit outside the peak periods of 11am to 2pm.

Closed areas: Minnamurra Falls walk closed

Minnamurra Falls walk is temporarily closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions. The Falls walk will re-open as soon as it is safe. The Visitor Information Centre and Lyrebird Loop Walk remain open.

Minnamurra Falls Walk in Budderoo National Park is currently closed until further notice due to prolonged rainfall causing rock fall, landslides, damage to walking track infrastructure and dangerous conditions.

Lyrebird Loop track remains open, however may close at short notice.

Comerong Island Nature Reserve is closed due to widespread flooding, forecast rain events, impacts on access tracks and closure of the council ferry service. The reserve will re-open after tracks dry out and and are made safe for general access.
