Safety alerts: Point Lookout Roadworks underway - CLOSED UNTIL FRIDAY 28 January 2022

Point Lookout Road is currently CLOSED and not suitable for vehicles due to excessive rainfall.   The road will be re-openned late on Friday 28 January but traffic will be subject to STOP / GO traffic control until 5th February.   Thungutti Camprgound IS accessible from Friday 28 January.

Point Lookout Walking track trackheads will not be accessible via vehicle. However, park visitors can walk in from New England National Park entrance

Safety alerts: Round Mountain Road access

Round Mountain Road into Barokee campground and Cathedral Rock track can become slippery after heavy rains. Please take caution if entering the park via this entrance, and drive to conditions.

Closed areas: All walking tracks closed from Barokee campground

Due to recent weather events impacting bushfire recovery works, there is currently no access to any walking tracks from Barokee campground (accessible off Round Mountain Road via the Waterfall Way) in Cathedral Rock National Park.

Please note:

  • All walking tracks are still accessible from Native Dog campground (accessible via Guyra Road). But please be aware of extra distances involved in walks when entering from the Native Dog campground entrance, including the Cathedral Rock track.
  • The Barokee to Native Dog Creek walk cannot be completed due to this closure, and all walks departing from Native Dog campground will have to return to Native Dog campground.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this closure may cause.

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk wet weather warning

The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain.  River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.

Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.
