NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial baiting program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. These programs will be undertaken from the Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th April 2023.

 

These programs are part of an integrated pest animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of wild dog and foxes on neighbouring stock and for conservation benefits.

 

Baiting programs will be conducted in Nocoleche Nature Reserve, Gundabooka National Park & State Conservation Area and Toorale State Conservation Area and National Park.

 

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

 

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed parks: Mount Grenfell Historic Site closed for visitor facility upgrades

Mount Grenfell Historic Site, including the Picnic Area, Art Site Walk, and Ngiyampaa Walkabout walking track will be closed from 7am Friday 2 June to 6pm Thursday 15 June. NPWS staff and contractors are undertaking a project to improve facilities and visitor information at the site.

Closed areas: Areas closed due to wet weather

The following areas are closed due to wet weather and slippery roads:

 

  • Caryapundy Lookout Campground
  • Caryapundy Lookout Drive
  • Caryapundy Tank Birdhide
  • Whittabrinnah Heritage Walk
  • Narriearra Scenic Drive

 

Many creek crossings/roads etc are closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions. These areas will re-open as soon as they are safe.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures.

Paroo-Darling National Park is closed from 7am, Wednesday 7 June to 4.30pm, Thursday 15 June 2023 for an aerial pest control operation.

Closed areas: Caryapundy lookout south loop closed

You'll need to complete this drive as a return trip instead of a loop, because Caryapundy lookout south loop drive is closed.

The closed section begins at the Narriearra scenic drive T-junction, and extends all the way up to Caryapundy tank bird hide.

The drive to Caryapundy tank bird hide is still around 70km when done as a return trip following Caryapundy lookout north loop from the Narriearra scenic drive T-junction.

Caryapundy lookout campground, Caryapundy tank bird hide, Narriearra scenic drive and Caryapundy lookout north loop are open.

The grey grasswren bird habitat is closed to the public while Bartons tank bird hide and the roads to the bird hide are being developed.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
