Closed parks: National parks closed due to impacts of severe weather
Many national parks and reserves in the Coffs Coast area are closed from 8am Thursday 22 May to 2pm Tuesday 27 May due to widespread flooding and weather impacts. Many creek crossings, roads and trails are impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions. Emergency services are requesting that people avoid unnecessary travel.
Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. Roads into and throughout the park may also be closed. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information and contact the local park office.
Parks will re-open as soon as staff have had the opportunity to assess conditions.

Closed areas: Dorrigo Rainforest Centre Precinct closed
The Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and Canopy Cafe is closed Thursday 22 May due to the severe weather impacting the Mid North Coast.
The closed areas are:
- Dorrigo Rainforest Information and Retail Centre
- Canopy Cafe
Significant rainfall has been recorded with more rain forecast. Many roads are already closed and there is the potential for further flooding. It is advised to review your travel plans to national parks and reserves in the Mid North Coast. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures.
Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule planned visits to parks and reserves and avoid unnecessary travel. Closed areas: Closed roads due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred in New England National Park
Closed roads in New England National Park until 31 August due to Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred. Road blocks have been installed on the Horseshoe road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north and at Kilprotay road Intersection to the south. In addition, Kilprotay road has developed a natural road blockage about 3.5 km from the intersection with the Horseshoe road.
Two significant events have been identified, affecting the roading network in New England National Park:
- Horseshoe road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access
- Kilprotay road – major landslip (~3.5km from the top intersection with the Horseshoe road), no through access
- Gaddes Ridge road - major landslip, no through access
These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

The following walking tracks are closed until 30 June 2025 due to extensive damage caused by ex-tropical cyclone Alfred:
- Parts of Wonga walk - Tristania Falls section (from Hardwood lookout to Tristania Falls)
- Red Cedar Falls walking track
- Slingsby trail and Syndicate Ridge track
Some sections of Wonga Walk remain open including:
- Lyrebird Link to the Glade
- The Glade to Crystal Showers Falls
- Crystal Showers Falls to Hardwood lookout

Slingsbys trail is closed until further notice due to severe flooding causing damage to infrastructure (bridge).
The western part of Syndicate walking track is closed from Tuesday 16 January 2024 until further notice. NPWS staff are working to assess the damage and repair options. The area will reopen when safe.
