Closed areas: Two small access roads in Kinchega National Park closed

Lake Drive, from Tandou Road to Morton Boulka and through to Cawndilla campground is closed. A small access road, Emu Lake Drive to Tandou Road, is also closed until further notice. These road closures do not prevent access to Emu Lake campground or to the main tourist attractions of the park.

Closed areas: Cawndilla campground and picnic area closed

Cawndilla campground and Cawndilla picnic area are closed and inaccessible until further notice. 

There are two other campgrounds in Kinchega National Park: Darling River campground and Emu Lake campground. For information please contact the NPWS Broken Hill office on 08 8084 2880.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park from Thursday 1 October 2020 to Thursday 1 April 2021. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information about fire bans in parks and reserves including your responsibilities visit NSW National Parks fire safety page.

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.
