Closed parks: Mutawntji National Park is closed due to rain.

Mutawntji National Park remains closed due to rain on all access roads. The Mutawintji National Park road is still closed by the Road Authority.  This closure will be updated when conditions change.  For further information please contact the Broken Hill National Park office on 08 8084 2880.

Closed areas: Areas closed for track upgrade

Some parts of this park are closed from Wednesday 8 July to Thursday 6 August while the start of the Homestead Gorge walking track is being upgraded. The closed areas are:

  • Homestead Creek picnic area
  • Thaaklatjika Mingkana walking track
  • Thaaklatjika (Wright's Cave)

 

Access to the walking trails in the Homestead Gorge can be access via entering Homestead Creek at the Homestead Campground.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Mutawintji National Park is undertaking a ground pest control operation.  The park and campground remain open for the duration of the ground shooting operation. This is a notification only and does not affect any visitor locations or campgrounds within Mutawintji National Park.

Closed parks: Eckerboon Lake Campground is closed to rain.

Eckerboon Lake campground is closed to rain as the access road is closed.  This closure will be re-assessed again on Wednesday 22 July.  For further information please call the Broken Hill National Park office on 08 8084 2880.

Kinchega National Park is closed on River Drive.  Campsites 1-29 are closed. Darling River camping is available ONLY at campsites 30-34.  The Tandou Road remains closed.   For further information please contact the Broken Hill NPWS office on 08 8084 2880.

Closed areas: Paroo-Darling National Park Closures for Pest Control Program

Paroo-Darling National Park will be undertaking pest control works from 0700 Tuesday 14th July to 1800 Friday 17th July 2026.

Closures include Peery Lake, Peery, Mandalay and Arrow Bar, Coonavitra North and South and Tilpilly.

Fire bans: Park fire ban for Paroo-Darling National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in Paroo-Darling National Park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and/or electric barbecue or cooker. Penalties apply for non-compliance. To find out more about fire bans in parks and reserves, including your responsibilities, visit NSW National Parks safety page.
