Other planned events: Notice of 1080 Aerial Baiting Program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial baiting program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. These programs will be undertaken from the Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th April 2023.

These programs are part of an integrated pest animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of wild dog and foxes on neighbouring stock and for conservation benefits.

Baiting programs will be conducted in Nocoleche Nature Reserve, Gundabooka National Park & State Conservation Area and Toorale State Conservation Area and National Park.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

For further information please call the Bourke National Parks Officer on 0268 300 200.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and/or electric barbecue or cooker. Penalties apply for non-compliance. To find out more about fire bans in parks and reserves, including your responsibilities, visit NSW National Parks safety page.
