Closed areas: Campgrounds, barbecues and picnic areas reopening

Campgrounds are opening again in a staged way for booked camping only. From 1 June, all campgrounds and campsites will require a booking to be made before you visit. Booked-only camping will remain until further notice to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff.  

Barbecues and picnic areas are generally open. The park is open for exercise for people who live locally.

Closed areas: Mungo Visitor Centre

Mungo Visitor Centre is closed until further notice. Picnic tables and toilets at the Visitor Centre will be available for use, however the barbecue area remains closed. All visitors need to protect themselves and others. Remember to keep your distance and take all precautions. COVID hygiene is your responsibility.

Park entry fees apply. if you plan on visiting, please ensure you have correct change ($8 per vehicle) and complete the self-registration envelopes available on site. Alternatively, annual park passes can be purchased via the NPWS website (Passes and fees).

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Mungo National Park. The program will run from Monday 25 May 2020 to Friday 12 June 2020. There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Do not touch baits.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other planned events: Domestic firewood permits

Permits for domestic firewood collection in Yanga National Park are available from Friday 1 May until Wednesday 30 September 2020. The available firewood is from a single collection point and consists of redgum milled timber offcuts (sleeper backs).

Permits cost $25/tonne or $12.50/tonne for pensioner concession with a limit of 6 tonne per household per year.

Permits are only available to residents of Balranald and Murray Rivers Shires.

Closed areas: Woomargama National Park - eastern end closed

The eastern section of Woomargama National Park is closed. The closure is due to the Green Valley bushfire which has resulted in damage to trails and fallen trees. This closed area includes:

  • All areas east of Tin Mines campground through to Lankeys Creek and Jingelic Road
  • Tin Mines trail east of the campsite
  • Philis trail
  • Cockatoo Creek trail
  • Mandaring trail
  • Mathewsons trail
  • Millers trail and any other trails into the reserves which enter via Lankeys Creek or the River road

Tin Mines and Samual Bollard campsites are still open and can be accessed by the Tin Mines trail off Tunnel road, Woomargama.

Please do not enter the closed area. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office or visit the Rural Fire Service website.
