The Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park may close to vehicles at short notice when visitation levels exceed safe capacity. This is particularly likely over weekends and public holidays.

Closed areas: Potter Point Road closed for essential works

Potter Point Road in Kamay Botany Bay National Park is closed on 25 November and 26 November 2020 for essential works.

Other planned events: Ferry wharf reinstatement

Transport for New South Wales are currently undertaking land-based investigations in support of the reinstatement of the ferry wharves at La Perouse and Kurnell within Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

These areas are still open to the public, however there may be some minor disruptions to some areas of usual access and parking. To find out more about this project please visit the Transport for NSW website.

Closed areas: Malabar Headland Anzac Rifle Range

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice.

2. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am
  • Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month
  • Please Note: The 2020 Queens Championships are scheduled to be held from Saturday 23 to Monday 25 of January 2021.

3. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
  • Park entry gates are closed

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only (Boora Point walking track).

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association.

Closed areas: Track closures due to helicopter operation

Some areas in this park are closed from 8.30pm, Tuesday 24 November to 5pm, Thursday 26 November 2020 for a helicopter operation. The closed areas are:

  • Royal Coast track between Burning Palms Beach and Marley Headland.
  • Marley track
  • Little Marley fire trail
  • Wattamolla precinct and Wattamolla Road
  • Curra Moors fire trail and Curra Moors track
  • Garie Beach precinct and Garie Road
  • Garawarra Farm, Garawarra Farm Road and Garawarra Ridge fire trail
  • Burgh Ridge track from Lady Wakehurst Drive to Royal Coast track
  • Wallumarra track 
  • Wises fire trail and Karani Ridge fire trail

Sir Bertram Stevens Drive will remain open. Visitors can access Wedding Cake Rock from Bundeena and Figure Eight Pools from Otford only.

Closed areas: Audley boatshed

The Audley boatshed will be undergoing important conservation and repair works. Boat hire will be suspended and the building and immediate surrounding area will be closed during this period.

Closed areas: Ironbark Flat picnic area closed for landscape upgrade

Ironbark Flat will be undergoing landscape upgrades including new turf and installation of an irrigation system. The grassed area will be closed during this period. The Visitors Centre, Dancehall Café and toilets remain open. For more information, please visit the Audley Precinct upgrades webpage.

Closed areas: Lower track closed

Lower track in Wolli Creek Regional Park is temporarily closed while remediation is carried out on Lot 2.

Undercliffe track remains open through to Jackson track and Turrella Reserve.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program will take place between Thursday 27 August 2020 and Wednesday 31 March 2021 in Towra Point Nature Reserve.

Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Closed areas: Access to Figure 8 Pools – Burgh Ridge track closed Mondays to Thursdays

Burgh Ridge track between Garawarra Farm and the Royal Coast track is closed during the week for major upgrade works from Saturday 1 August to Tuesday 1 December 2020:

  • The track is closed Monday to Thursday
  • The track is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

This closure will impact people visiting Figure 8 Pools. Visitors can access Figure 8 Pools from Garie Beach and Otford lookout along the Royal coast.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.
