Closed areas: Suspected asbestos material exposed in northern section of Beowa National Park

Location: Beowa National Park, north of Pambula Beach Rd, west of Baptist Church.

Issue: Material suspected to contain asbestos has been located at this site.

Current situation:

NPWS has located material suspected to contain asbestos at a site in Beowa National Park in the forest north of Pambula Beach Road.

The initial material found has been removed, however investigations are underway to further assess the site.

While the potential health risk is considered low, the safety of park visitors and the community is our priority.

It appears the material may be associated with soil that was deposited at the site before the area became national park.

For safety, the area has been closed to all public access, with fencing and signage installed to prevent access.
