All walking tracks that run along the rivers in Kwiambal National Park are closed due to flood damage.

The walking track linking Lemon Tree Flat campground and Kookibitta campground has reopened.

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog and fox pest control program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic aerial and ground baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operation will involve the use of fresh meat containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Monday 23 August 2021 to Friday 19 November 2021 in the following reserves:

  • Barool NP
  • Bolivia Hill NR
  • Cathedral Rock NP
  • Capoompeta NP
  • Gibraltar Range NP
  • Guy Fawkes River NP
  • Kwiambal NP CCAZ (Arthurs Seat)
  • Nymboida NP
  • Severn River NR
  • Washpool NP

This program has been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state-focused biosecurity issues.

All baiting locations will be signposted.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed parks: Ongoing 1080 pest management program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff will be undertaking an ongoing 1080 poison pest control operation from Tuesday 25 May to Thursday 25 November 2021. This will involve continuous aerial and ground baiting programs using meat baits, meat bait products, ejectors and grain containing 1080 (sodium fluroacetate) poison. 

This pest control operation aims to reduce the impacts and populations of feral pigs, dogs and foxes in these parks and surrounding private property.

1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) is lethal to domestic animals. Dogs, cats and stock are prohibited in lands managed by NPWS. Please be aware of the risk of lethal 1080 poisoning, and keep domestic animals and stock away from baiting areas at all times. All baiting locations will be identified by signs. 

The program will be continuous and ongoing in:

  • Arakoola Nature Reserve
  • Bullala National Park
  • Burral Yurrul National Park and Nature Reserve
  • Dthinna Dthinnawan National Park and Nature Reserve
  • Gunyerwarildi National Park
  • Gwydir River National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Ironbark Nature Reserve
  • Planchonella Nature Reserve
  • Taringa Nature Reserve
  • Warialda National Park and State Conservation Area
