The following national parks and conversation reserves are closed due to an aerial pest control operation:

  • Turon National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Southern Blue Mountains National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Jenolan Karst, Abercrombie, and Wombeyan Karst Conservation Reserves

These parks are closed from 7am, Monday 17 August, through to, Friday 28 August 2020 at 4:30pm, for an aerial pest animal control operation.

Following an unprecedented bushfire season in 2019-20 this operation forms part of the NSW Government’s state-wide delivery of an expanded aerial shooting program as part of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s Wildlife and Conservation Bushfire Recovery immediate response.

Vertebrate pest animals to be controlled include wild dogs, foxes, feral pigs, goats and deer, which damage sensitive riparian habitats and impact threatened plant populations, exacerbate soil erosion, compete with threatened fauna and may become a vector for the transfer of exotic stock diseases. This Biosecurity program is being undertaken to reduce the impacts of vertebrate pest animals upon water catchments, neighbouring agricultural lands and to protect conservation and biodiversity values.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information on this program please contact the NPWS Kanangra area office on 02 6336 6200.
